Announcement! :)

Hi guys!

So, I've just decided to write a vampire love story with a twist. The twist will be... Well, I'm still working on that. XD Honestly, It's a spur  of the moment decision when I came upon this nice cover which I made from downloading, cropping, pasting, and editing the pictures, etc. ect. :D I'm actually very excited to write this story since it's my first time writing about a vampire love story and the fact that I love reading and watching movies about vampires, but never seem to write about them until today. Also, I already have the characters, plot of the story in my head. I just have to put it in writing and now I'm in the middle of it. :) I will be posting the prologue and chapter one soon. I hope you will come to like this new book of mine and support it as well.

Here's the blurb by the way;

Cassidy was just an average, geeky girl, and a loner, who finally made a few friends during the start of her senior year, but was tragically sent to live on the other side of the world with her only known relative in Hampstead, North West London, when her father died from an odd animal attack during his hiking trip with some friends and her stepmother had just chosen that moment to disappear and left her with nothing. On her way to find her Aunt's place, she got lost and bumped into a strangely pale guy yet deadly beautiful who glared at her with utmost contempt the moment he laid his eyes on her. She was glad when she arrived at her Aunt's place and decided to forget about the weird guy she met. However, a few days after she started attending St. Claire Academy, a new student came and to her horror, it was the guy she had met who hated her before he even knew her and to top it off, he was in her class too! Then, news came about the mysterious disappearances and deaths, especially of young girls just after the new guy; Caleb Scovell moved to the area.

What will Cassidy do when wherever she goes, it seems like Caleb coincidentally is around too? Will she stay away from him when his piercing, icy, blue eyes compels her to go near him even if he looks dangerous?

Prologue

1696, St. Austell, Cornwall, England

I awoke with an unusual burning sensation enveloping my entire body as I tried to open my arduous eyelids, but the smothering heat engulfed me, drowning me as I started to shake uncontrollably, impelling me to the darkness as I lost consciousness. However, before I was hauled to a bottomless gulf, I heard Amara's revoltingly aggrieved voice.

“You will be doomed for eternity of solitude and suffering, Caleb as you have scathe and betrayed my love for you...”

After for seemed like an eternity of slumber and voidness, my eyes slowly opened from the relatively loud voices of different people chatting and the relentless chattering of animals in the woods. I was quite appalled and uncertain when my eyes finally opened and had adjusted to the dark surrounding as my vision became vividly clear, like I was seeing something in an entirely different perception. The cottage had no lights of some sorts, but I could perfectly see well through the darkness of the night. I was in Amara's hidden cottage down in the woods. Why am I here? I asked myself as I could not remember what had happened. All I could recollect was, I was with Cornelia and we were happily chatting in the stable after our late afternoon ride.

“Cornelia...” I whispered, remembering her and I was aghast to hear my voice. It was still the same, however, the pitch of my voice changed several octaves higher with a mixture of huskiness. It sounded somehow alluring. I shook my head when my temple started to throb and my throat felt parched. I suddenly felt thirsty like I had not drank for a long time. I arose without delay and walked towards the door only to be astonished as how inhumanely fast I moved. Disregarding it, I reached for the door and swung it open, but the door was effortlessly torn from its hinges. I let go of the door handle and ran towards our Manor, terrified and confused as to what had really happened to me. Everything to me was new and profound. I had this speed beyond any normalities, a vision that could see through the dark and as I gazed upon through the darkness of the woods, I could clearly see every animals of different kinds even in the far distance lurking just about everywhere. I stopped running when I was in front of the Manor. My sense of hearing seemed to have also heightened I observed as I could hear my mother's heartbreaking cry. Why is my mother crying? I thought to myself and tried to listen carefully. I was surprised yet again to hear all kinds of sounds. People's voices mixed with animals and even insects hollered in my ears in a deafening manner. I dropped to my knees and covered my ears as I felt like my head was going to explode from the tremendous noise.

“Silence! I cannot take it anymore! I beg of you!” I screamed, still covering my ears. Then, I heard footsteps rushing towards my direction.

“Son!” My father's voice---the lord of the Scovell Manor---echoed in the night as he swung the door open. He knelt down before me and his strong arms enclosed my body. “Son, you are as pale and cold as the dead! What has happened to you? We were searching for many days, but we did not come upon you!” My father exclaimed and helped me stand upright. I could not find my voice as my senses became clouded by the loud and fast beating of my father's heart and my eyes involuntarily went to the pulsating blood through the veins of his neck. Against my will, my mouth watered and suddenly, I could feel something elongated and sharp growing inside my mouth then I tasted my own blood. I turned my back on him at once, afraid that my father might see it.

Oh, dear Lord, what is happening to me?

“What is the matter, son?” My father inquired in his worried voice. I did not answer and remained silent.

“Oh, Caleb! My son!” I heard my mother's distressed voice as she rushed towards us and wrapped her slender arms around me.

“Stay away from me!” I hissed and pushed her away, forgetting the unknown strength I possessed, I sent my mother flying back inside the house and landed on one of our furniture. I heard a crackling sound of a broken glass, then my nose wrinkled as I smelled the delicious scent of blood dripping on the floor.

“Elizabeth!” My father ran towards her, but something possessed me. Before my father was able to reach my unconscious mother, I ran towards her in a swift movement and sank my teeth on her bloody hand. My enraged father grabbed my shoulders and attempted to pull me away from my mother's already limp body, but the beast in me would not concede. I ferociously shoved him and continued on drinking my mother's blood to the last drop.

“What has befall of you, my son...? What has the devil bestowed on you? No, you are no longer my son! You are a monster!” My father cried as he tried to straighten his bruised body from the hard fall. I stared at him and then at my lifeless mother in horror as my thirst was finally quenched. I moved away only to be terrified yet again to see my horrendous appearance in the mirror that was hanging on the wall, facing me. My skin was as pale as the ghost, my eyes were bloodshot, and I could see fangs extended from my upper lip with fresh blood dripping on my mouth.

Chapter 1: The first encounter

2014, October, Wisconsin, USA

Two weeks after my dad's burial, my stepmother just disappeared all of a sudden, leaving me alone in the empty house. Though it was not something new since my dad was a jet-setting type, leaving me most of the time with my step-mom, who wasn't around most of the time as well. However, this time around, my dad won't be around for good. He was tragically attacked by a wild animal of some sort while he was on a hiking trip with his two close buddies. Fortunately, his friends were fine, but unfortunately for my dad, he didn't survive and what was strange the most, his blood was drained empty. What animal could have done that? I honestly didn't believe that it was a wild animal. It was something different, but I didn't know what either, so I'd just stick to the police report for now.

“Cassy, we will miss you! We've just started being friends yet you're going away already.” Jesse mopped and hugged me, pulling me back from my deep thoughts. We were in our new favorite spot in the school cafeteria having our lunch. It would be my last day attending the same school with them since tomorrow I'd be flying to Europe.

“I know. If I can choose, I'd stay here, but what can I do? I'm just seventeen.” I said gravely, willing myself not to cry. I just couldn't cry in front of other people even with friends. I didn't really like showing my emotions to anyone and that might be the reason I didn't have many friends. I was a very reserved and aloof person which often mistaken as a snob. But just as I'd finally made friends, I'd be moving to a place called Hampstead in North West London where I would be staying with my only close relative or probably my only relative, aunt Mary. All I knew about her was, she was my late mom's cousin and a spinster. My mom had never mentioned about aunt Mary since she died giving birth to me before she could even say anything to me.

“Why does your only relative has to live in England? My God! It's more than three thousand miles away! I'm really gonna miss you, girly...” Lea grumbled and hugged me as well. I knew they were avoiding mentioning my dad's death, afraid that I would breakdown or something and I was thankful that they didn't. I couldn't talk about it, not yet. I was still hurting...

“Yeah, me too.” I tried to hide my sadness, but failed. I'd really missed them since they were my only friends. My whole high school life from 9th grade to 11th grade, I was always alone and when Jesse and Lea became my friends, I was really happy. Sadly, I'd be leaving soon to another continent that I'd never been in my entire life. A foreign place where I knew nothing of and the one thing that I was dreading of, I'd be transferring to a new school where I'd be treated as the new kid with no friends. It would be like back to zero again. I let out a mouthful of air from my lungs. I'm surely gonna miss Wisconsin...

London Heathrow Airport

I sighed as soon as I got out of the airport, feeling homesick already. Welcome to London, Cassidy. Welcome to your new home... I lazily took a cab and told him my aunt's address. Unknowingly, tears started falling from my eyes as the car started to move. I hadn't cried since I heard the news that my dad had passed away even during his burial. Not a single drop, but now, all the kept emotions I had hidden for weeks just burst out. My shoulders shook as I cried my heart out when the realization finally sunk in. I'm an orphan now... I told myself bitterly. My dad's gone and I'd never gonna see him again.

What kind of life is waiting for me here?

“Are you alright, hun?” The kind-looking cab driver asked when he heard me crying. I just nodded and wiped my tears, willing myself to stop from crying. I was glad the driver didn't pursue on talking to me, but occasionally peeked through the rear mirror to check on me. He looked concerned, but still I would want him to just leave me alone since I was not in the mood for any conversation. I stared out through the window to avoid the curious driver's eyes. We were traveling for the past forty minutes when the car suddenly made a rumbling sound, then the car slowly died down at the side of the road.

“What happened?” I asked, a bit worried.

“I'm so sorry, hun. Car engine trouble. Will it be alright if you take another taxicab? I believe, it will take quite a long time to fix this arse of a car.” The cab driver gave me an apologetic look. I sighed, but nodded since I had no choice. After I paid him, I took my luggage, got off the car and looked for another cab. Unfortunately, all of the cabs were taken so I decided to walk while I searched. I didn't realize I was walking far from the main road.

“Amazing... Don't tell me, I'm lost. This is just what I needed on my first day here.” I muttered to myself as I looked around. I checked my watch and it said; six past twenty in the evening. It was getting dark already so I looked for someone that I could ask for direction when all of a sudden I hit into something hard which had almost made me fall on my bum if I didn't grab hold of it. I glanced up, expecting a wall, but I was surprised to see the most beautiful creature I'd ever seen in my entire existence. I didn't even think there was such a person as handsome as him who existed. His beauty was beyond comparable not even the handsomest actors, singers, or any other celebrities could surpass or much less be compared to him. He had this pair of seductive, icy-blue eyes that looked like they were glowing in the early, dusky night. His glossy raven hair slightly shadowed his right eye with silvery-white streaks on his fringes making him look so hot like a rock star. A perfect nose and red lips that were so tempting, but what was most striking about him was the paleness of his skin. I had pale skin too, but he was way paler than me in a different degree. It was like he hadn't seen the sun for a very long time. My fancy thoughts were disrupted when I lifted up my eyes to see his gorgeous blue eyes turned dark with rage. “I-m s-o sorry.” I apologized nervously, thinking that he got mad because I bumped into him and didn't say sorry. I continued when he didn't answer, “I didn't m---”

“Let go.”

“W-what?” I was confused. He appeared furious, but surprisingly his voice sounded enticing. I bet he can sing well... I dreamily thought, forgetting about his scary stare. He was very tall, too, I noticed as I craned my neck to gaze into his mesmerizing blue orbs. I'd think he was more than six feet tall.

“My arm. Let it go, this instant.” He commanded in his really nice, husky voice. Wait, what did he say? I didn't catch what he was saying since I was more focused on his voice and his abnormally fascinating face.

“Um, w-what was that again?” I asked shyly, still a bit stuttering as I gaped at him.

“Are you a fool? I told you to let go of my bloody arm. Now, would you mind letting go?” His chilly and rude remarks splashed cold water in my face, which made me get back to my senses. I let go of his arm, feeling embarrassed for realizing that I'd been gripping it the whole time. But one thing that hit me though, he was freezing, like ice-cold freezing. He felt like a hard, cold metal that was why I didn't realize I was grasping his arm till then. I honestly thought it was a lamp post or something.

“You're freezing cold. Are you OK?” I whispered almost to myself as he turned his back on me and started walking away, but stopped in his tracks when he probably heard my voice which I doubted he would. I also wondered why he was so cold when it wasn't even winter yet. It actually still felt a bit summery around here.

“I will be as long as you are not around.” He said calmly, but it was contrary to what his eyes expressed. They were glaring at me with the utmost contempt while his chest was heaving in an uncontrollable manner. He looked so scary, but I couldn't understand why I didn't feel scared at all. I was, in fact, worried.

“I think you're not OK. You're trembling.” I walked toward him, but he backed away immediately, while giving me a deadly glare.

“Do not ever come near me!” He hissed and ran off, disappearing into an alley, and leaving me awestruck.

“What the hell was that...” I uttered to myself in confusion as I stared at the alley that he disappeared into. Honestly, that was really weird and creepy. I tried to just shrug it off and started to walk in the opposite direction when my phone vibrated in my jeans pocket. It was Aunt Mary calling, so I stopped and answered it.

“Where are you now, Cassidy?” My aunt's clipped voice sounded more irritated than worried that I began to worry. I'd be living under her roof for a long time, after all.

“Um, I think I'm lost, aunt Mary.” I replied, feeling a bit anxious about my situation. I heard her sigh before she replied.

“Can you describe the place where you are now at the moment? I will ask someone to fetch you.” She said afterward. I felt relieved hearing that and gave her the description. I waited for the car my aunt said would fetch me after the call ended and occasionally I glanced at the alley where the weird yet beautiful guy disappeared into. I wasn't really sure, but I could strangely feel like someone was watching me, observing my every move. I shook my head to get rid of the creepy thoughts I had and decided to play a boring game in my smart phone to ease the uneasy feeling I had. After a few minutes of playing it, I got bored so I just listened to a music instead and hum along with it while I closed my eyes. I felt relaxed all of a sudden. After all, music had always been my safe haven ever since I was a kid and felt lonely or scared of monsters under my bed. Yeah. I believed in monsters. I knew they were real even until now. I just didn't get to see them. I had finished listening to a few songs when a fancy red sports car stopped in front of the foot-walk from where I was standing and then a tall guy went out of the car. A handsome blonde with brown eyes. He lazily walked toward me and without a word, took my luggage from me. He then went to the back of his car and effortlessly placed my luggage in the trunk.

“Hey! Who are you and why the hell are you taking my things?!” I yelled and walked toward him with my hands on my waist.

“Are you not the niece of Miss Brown?” He asked and arched his thick eyebrow while giving me a quick assessment. My brow furrowed and crossed my arms protectively in front of my chest.

“Well, um, yeah. How do you know?”

“Because you are the only one standing and carrying a luggage in this area, you muppet.” He grumbled and turned his heels toward the car and got in the driver's seat. Did he just call me stupid? I took a deep breath and let it go. It was my first day in London and I wouldn't want to turn it into my worst first day ever. Thinking about it, my thoughts went back to Mr. Weirdo just a while ago. He was rude to me too, and this one was another cocky asshole.

Why do I have to deal with two jerky English dudes on my first day here? I asked myself begrudgingly.

“Miss Muppet! Are you coming or not?” He called out and popped his head out of the window. I silently went toward the car and opened the door in the back seat. “Sit here, Miss Muppet. You surely did not think that I'm your private chauffeur, do you?” He said in a sarcastic manner while he pointed to the passenger seat. I sighed and closed the backseat door, then went to sit beside him. “Buckle your seatbelt, Miss Muppet---”

“Don't call me that.” I said with a frown and put on my seatbelt.

“Why? I like it. It suits you well.”

“English jerk...” I mumbled and gazed out of the window.

“Thank you very much.” He smirked at me and fired up his car.

“Are all English guys, jerks?”

“Are all American girls have no sense of style?” He asked and looked at me, up and down. I knew I didn't wear fancy clothes like the popular girls in my previous school in Wisconsin, but I didn't think my clothing style was that worst for him to look at me distastefully. I was wearing a black simple blouse with a matching black cardigan, tattered jeans, and a pair of black converse canvas shoes. I didn't see any problem with my outfit today though.

“Why are you being mean to me?”

“Because I got called to come here in the middle of having fun in an all-nighter just to fetch your bloody arse.”

“So, why did my aunt ask you to pick me up?”

“It's a long story.” He said with a sour face. A couple of minutes past, he slowed down and stopped the car on the driveway of a big and beautiful house with a wide lawn. My aunt had been a spinster, well that was what I had heard, so I wondered how she felt, living in a big house alone. That must be very lonely and I knew somehow how that felt... I sighed and got out of the car. As soon as I was out of the car, I saw a stern-looking, middle-age woman with thick glasses, waiting for us on the front porch. She must be, aunt Mary. She looked scary though... I thought inwardly. Mr. Cocky Blonde took out my luggage and carried it to the front porch and said Hi to my aunt.

“Thank you for bringing home my niece, Mr. Reid. I do hope you behave more properly next time. Remember, this is your last warning.”

“Aye, aye, Mistress!” He said with a grin and whispered something to me. “Good luck.” He said meaningfully and walked toward his parked car after he excused himself from my aunt. What's that supposed to mean? I thought to myself.

======####========

“This will be your room from now on, Cassidy.” My aunt said formally after she escorted me to a spacious room, complete with antique furniture. The room was pretty, but it was a complete opposite of my previous modern room. I was completely looking out of place. It actually made me feel like a rug in a shiny, vintage room.

“Thank you, Aunt Mary.” I said and smiled timidly. Looking at my aunt made me really feel intimidated. She had this somewhat habitual action of giving me a disapproving look. I felt like she didn't like me the moment she saw me. That made me wonder. Do I look that unlikable? I mean, the first guy whom I bumped into, seemed to hate me, then Blonde also gave me the same reaction, and now my aunt. I just couldn't help, but felt pity for myself.

“Tomorrow morning, a seamstress will come here and measure your size.” She informed me, again with her formal tone of voice.

“Uh, um, what for?”

“Please do address me properly as aunt Mary when we are in this house. However, if we are at St. Claire, never forget to address me as Headmistress. I wouldn't want anyone to think that my niece is being rude to me when they hear you speak to me like that. Is that clear, Cassidy?” I nodded, feeling the tension between us. She may have delivered her words politely, but her tone of voice was cold and demanding. This was what Mr. Cocky Blonde must have meant when he said, Good luck. It was meant for my aunt who seemed to be a terror, hiding in her formal facade. “Very well. As for your inquiry, a seamstress will come tomorrow and measure your size for your school uniform. You will attend the class at St. Claire Academy starting on this Monday and I must warn you, wearing of school uniform is strictly followed in accordance with the school rules.”

“Yes, aunt Mary.” I complied obediently.

“Good. Oh, and please do remove that bothersome dark eye makeup you're wearing. That I may say, is absolutely prohibited in school.”

“Yes, aunt Mary.” I repeated the same words like a mantra. I'd never imagined that my only living relative would be this tyrannic. What is she like as the school principal, then? I cringed as I imagined it.

“Alright then. Dinner's served at seven. Don't be tardy.” She said, or rather ordered before she left me.

“Wow, that was exhausting...” I muttered under my breath and dropped my luggage on the carpeted floor. I glanced at the cuckoo clock hanging on the wall opposite of the four-poster bed. It said; six past forty-five. I'd got fifteen minutes left before the dinner time, so I decided to open the french door to the balcony. The night breeze instantly blew gently on my face as I gazed through the almost dark surroundings. My room's balcony was overlooking the backyard so I could see the wide lawn and the greenhouse from where I was at the moment. I started humming one of the songs that I often listened to and closed my eyes while I inhaled the coolness of the night air. It was like a habit of mine when I'd felt sad, nervous or agitated about something. Then, all of a sudden, I felt like I was being watched. The same feeling I had earlier. You could say, it was instinctive. So, I immediately opened my eyes and looked around. There it was, a dark silhouette of a tall man standing by the tree, just beside the greenhouse. I wasn't sure since it was kinda dark and a bit far, but I thought he was staring at me. I blinked my eyes to make sure I wasn't imagining things and he was gone or was never there. “Nice... Real nice. Now, I'm seeing things. I must be hungry.” I blurted and went inside the room again. I closed the door tightly and locked it. Even if it had been just a fabric of my imagination, I'd better make sure I could be safe in my room. Who knows... “Oh, shoot! The dinner!” I slapped my forehead for almost forgetting about it. I ran to the bathroom in my room and quickly washed my face and removed my overly smudge dark eyeshadow. I then ran out of the room to find the dining area. I was glad when I found it just in time. My aunt seemed pleased to see I wasn't wearing any dark eye makeup and so we had a nice, quiet meal.

That night, I dreamed about the strange, scary, yet gorgeous guy. He must have been in my head for me to even dreamed about him. When I woke up the next day, my aunt scolded me for making the seamstress wait. I knew blaming Mr. Weird-slash-scary, wouldn't do me any good so I decided to just forget about him since we would probably not see each other or bumped into each other in a big city such as London.

====####====

Today was my first day at my new school as the new kid, of course. Big deal. Yeah. No. Honestly, yeah, it was a big deal. I was pretty worried about people noticing me since I was new. I would not say, they would stare at me because I was pretty---I was far from pretty. Just a plain-looking girl with pale skin, lame brown eyes, and long, messy black hair that hung wildly about everywhere and covered most of my face---but because they'd think I was being weird. That was what most of the students in my previous school thought of me. The weird, emo girl in black. That was what they used to call me since I was always alone, eating lunch in the same corner every day with my hair hiding my face. Some even teased me and called me, Sadako---The famous scary girl with long black hair in the Japanese horror movie called, The ring. I must say, they had a pretty twisted imagination, but thankfully that changed when I made friends as senior year started. Now, I would be going back to first base. I sighed as I fixed my school uniform which I'd give credit to Mrs. Bailey for making this uniform as fast as one day. Though, I'd wish she didn't. Wearing school uniforms, especially since I had to wear a pleated skirt, bothered me. They seemed really uncomfortable and inconvenient. I'd rather wear my comfortable, wash-off or tattered jeans and shirt than this fancy uniform and black knee-high socks. I suddenly missed my school in Wisconsin. At least, I didn't have to wear a uniform in that school and I missed Jesse and Lea already. I sighed once more before I went out of my room. I looked at my assignment slip which my aunt gave me last night. It said my first class will start at eight-thirty and it was just seven past thirty-five. My aunt went ahead of me already since she told me she had lots of things to do as the headmistress of the school. Well, whatever that was, I'd totally be fine with it. I would surely feel tense, sitting beside my aunt in a car anyway, so, I was actually thankful that I would commute to school today or for the whole school year for that matter. I must be a bad and ungrateful niece for even thinking about such rude stuff, but I'd be lying if I would say otherwise. I shrugged my not so good thoughts off my mind as I reached the bus stop and waited for the bus to arrive.

=====####======

I arrived pretty early for my first period so I decided to just sit on a bench near the parking area, but away from many people to see. I picked a good spot beside a big tree and sat down, then I took my iPod from my backpack and plugged the headphones in my ears. I listened to the songs of my favorite band, My Chemical Romance. I reclined my head on the bench and closed my eyes. As usual, I hummed along as the music blasted in my ears at full volume. I'd been listening to maybe a couple of songs when I drifted to sleep. I wasn't sure for how long I had been sleeping when I jolted out of sleep, feeling like someone was sitting beside me and staring at me. I jerked my eyes open immediately, alarmed, I turned my head on both right and left side of the bench, but there was no one. I was alone.

“Ha! Me and my creative mind.” I shook my head and when I glanced at my watch, it said; eight past thirty-two. “Oh, crap! I missed the bell!” I slapped my forehead and hurriedly ran to find my classroom. I was huffing and sweating really hard when I arrived in the classroom.

“And you must be the transfer student?” A man with hair that was almost white, with thick, round glasses hanging on his nose asked while he gave me a grim expression.

“Yes, Sir. I'm Cassidy Adams.” I said bashfully and gave him my assignment slip.

“You are five minutes late, Miss Adams, but I will excuse you for today since this is your first day.” He said without smiling.

“Sorry, Sir. It won't happen again and thank you.” I tried to smile, but looking at his steely expression, my smile faded.

“Now, go to your seat.” He ordered and I silently looked for a vacant seat. As I roamed my eyes in the classroom, I saw some girls glaring at me so I averted my eyes and upon doing so, I came across, Mr. Cocky Blonde, sitting at the back, smirking at me. I already guessed that he was attending this school based on his conversation with my aunt last Saturday, but I didn't expect to be in the same class with him. Just great. I thought to myself. I hastily walked toward the empty seat at the back near the window, but someone tripped me which almost made me kiss the floor. I heard soft giggles and I realized they were the girls who were glaring at me a while ago.

“Girls, be quiet!”

“Yes, Mr. Roberts.” A girl with a fake-looking bleach hair said and smirked at me. I decided to ignore her and went to my chosen seat. The class resumed and I was in the middle of trying not to sleep during the boring class of Mr. Roberts when I heard gasps, especially of girls. I then heard Mr. Roberts angry voice again, but I didn't mind it and just continued on doodling in my notebook.

“Another late comer. And you must be?” Mr. Roberts muttered snidely.

“Caleb Scovell. I officially enrolled in this school just today and that explains my tardiness if you were so inclined to ask.” My head snapped to the front almost immediately, not because of the newcomer's smug reply, but because it was familiar. In that fleeting moment, my eyes locked with his icy-blue eyes that were as cold as the night sea.

Chapter 2: The uncanny occurrences

Cold sweat started falling on my brow, face, and nape as I felt a pair of eyes boring behind me. I knew instinctively that he was staring at me and it was making me act fidgety. I moved uncomfortably on my chair as I tried to focus on the lesson, but failed miserably. Why did he have to sit behind me? It's not like he didn't have any choice. There were a few vacant chairs, for God's sake! I screamed in my head and unconsciously, I slammed my fist on my armchair. I was relieved it wasn't very loud, so nobody noticed my strange behavior, yet enough to send my pen flying to the floor. Could you guess where did it fall? It fell beside his right foot! I immediately sat upright and waited for him to pick up my pen and return it to me since it was the polite way to do, but seconds past and still I didn't hear him moved a single bit. I held my breath and decided to turn my head and peeked. I almost gasped to find myself staring at those icy-blue specks. They looked so... Dangerous and... Compelling. I couldn't find the strength to avert my eyes as if they were magnetized to him until...

“Miss Adams? Miss Adams!” I heard Mr. Roberts' irritated voice. It was like a bomb thrown into my frozen state. You could imagine a mirror getting smashed by a hammer and turned into a small debris. I instantly faced to the front and gaped at Mr. Roberts, who was glaring daggers in my direction. I gulped hardly before I spoke.

“Yes, Mr. Roberts?”

“Miss Adams, you were late on your first day of class and now you are not paying any attention to my class. Are you finding Mr. Scovell more interesting than my lesson?” My face turned crimson as my classmates started laughing.

“I... Um... I---” I could literally say, SAVED BY THE BELL. I let out a heavy sigh of relief as soon as my classmates quickly dispersed out of the room after the bell rang. I also gathered my things and was about to leave my chair when a hand appeared in my face and placed my pen on my armchair. I glanced up to see him---Caleb---giving me the same weird look.

“T-hank---” I wasn't able to finish my sentence since he walked---or rather, glided quickly out of the room, leaving me more embarrassed than ever. Hmp! Weird Jerk! I wanted to scream, but held myself.

“Bravo, Miss Muppet! You've just given me one bloody entertaining class today.” I snapped my head behind me and saw Mr. Cocky Blonde with a smirk plastered on his face.

“Leave me alone, Blonde.” I hissed and grabbed my backpack from the armchair.

“Arsey.” He taunted as I rushed out of the room.

My eyes literally bulged out, seeing Caleb for the third time. He had been in my two classes straight already and now, his in my third period class too. It was very tedious having the same class with him. I wasn't exaggerating or anything, but during second period, he sat next to me yet he never said a word or even moved a muscle. I had been all antsy the whole long period because of him and now we would be spending another long hour in Biology. Plus, all the girls in the room were openly swooning over him even the teacher looked at him with fascination. I think Mr. Roberts was the only person immuned to his charms. I, myself, couldn't be excluded, I must admit. I quietly went to Mrs. Williams and gave her my assignment slip. It took me a while to get her attention though.

“Oh, Miss Adams. Good grief, you saved my dilemma, dear!” She exclaimed and even clapped her hands.

“Uh, um, what do you mean, ma'am?” I gawked at her in confusion, but she didn't answer me. Instead, she turned her attention to the girls hovering around Caleb. I wondered what they were arguing and jostling about.

“Mr. Scovell, I found you a partner now. So, girls, go back to your seats. There will be of no need to change partners or leave your poor partners just so you can be with this handsome lad.” Mrs. Williams announced in her amused tone.

“But, Mrs. Williams! I think Caleb wants to be partnered with me.” The girl with the artificial bleached hair and who I remembered---almost made me fall by tripping me in History---complained.

“Ruby, I don't think Scovell feels the same way as you.” I was surprised to see Mr. Cocky Blonde at the far side corner of the room. Now this is just great. Two English jerks in one room and in the same class as me. My day just couldn't get any better. The other guys that were grumbling from the girls' unnecessary noise just a while ago, laughed altogether.

“Shut up, Dylan. You're just bloody-arsed jealous.” She spat out.

“You wish, arseface.”

“W-hat did you sa---”

“Class! That is enough! Ladies go back to your seats this instant.” Mrs. Williams ordered in her authoritative tone. The girls groaned in displeasure, but obeyed and went back to their seats. I was feeling awkward at the moment as I stood in front and waited for Mrs. Williams' instructions, but seemed like she had forgotten about me.

“Um, excuse me, Mrs. Williams---”

“Oh, dear! Do forgive me, I have forgotten about you. Go sit beside Mr. Scovell. You will be partnered together for the whole activities of this class.”

“Wait! She's his partner?! I don't think Caleb would like being partnered with a weird gal such as herself.” The bleach-haired girl called Ruby glared at me condescendingly after finally noticing my existence inside the classroom.

“It is fine.”

All eyes instantly went to Caleb. It was like everyone was surprised to hear him speak. Those three little words were like music to the ears. Well, for me, it was. He was also staring at me with his oh so familiar icy stare which made my knees buckle.

“Oh, there you go. Problem solved. Miss Adams, go on now, dear.” I heard Mrs. Adams, but my feet won't move. They felt like jellies and the fact that everyone's eyes was on me---The girls were glaring at me menacingly while the boys, I wasn't so sure, maybe curious---made me nervous. I was never a big fan of attention.

“Hey, American girl! Will you sit already so we could bloody start?” I heard someone yell from one of the students at the back, followed by the murmuring of other students in agreement. I started walking with my head bent toward the desk where Caleb and I would be sharing for the rest of the school year. I then slowly slid down on the vacant chair beside him as quietly as I could. Mrs. Williams started the lesson and gave us our activity sheet afterward, but I was wondering how could we do our activity together when Caleb seemed to dislike me and won't even talk to me. I wondered or rather I was shock that he even agreed on having me as his partner. He should have chosen Ruby since she was pretty and not weird like me. It would save me some trouble of having to deal with him, ignoring me. But curious as always, I risked a quick glimpse of his face, but just in time for him to catch me. My face automatically reddened and quickly averted my eyes. I let my long, dark hair curtained my flushed face as I pushed the microscope to his side, but he pushed it back to me. I frowned and glanced at him, but he wasn't looking at me. I sighed and decided to do the activity on my own, but I was so distracted by his mere present and his very nice smell. He smelled of something sweet like a combination of lilac, freesia, and violets. Oddly, in spite of that, he didn't smell like a girl. He had this sweet male scent and it made me want to snuggle beneath his arms.

“Aw.” I winced, feeling the slight sting of pain as I accidentally scraped my right thumb against the slide and blood started dripping on my hand. Oh, crap! This is what you get for fantasizing, Cassidy! I scolded myself and reached for my hanky in my bag when all of a sudden, Caleb harshly stood up, knocking his chair down while glaring menacingly at my bloody thumb.

“What is the matter, Mr. Scovell?” Mrs. Williams asked, surprised at his sudden action. The students were now gaping at us. Caleb didn't answer, but kept glaring at me, specifically at my wounded thumb while covering his nose with his hand.

“What's wrong?” I asked, a bit confused and terrified by his scary expression.

“Mr. Scovell are you feeling sick? Do you need to go to the clinic---” Mrs. Williams wasn't able to finish her sentence since Caleb already fled out of the room.

“Mrs. Williams, can I go to the clinic too?” I asked afterward, then I raised my thumb which was still bleeding.

“Oh, dear! Yes, yes, go ahead and please do check about Mr. Scovell's condition, would you?” She responded after she recovered from the weirdness of Caleb. I could see that everyone was wondering too as what happened to him.

====####====

I looked around as soon as I got out of the classroom, but there was no trace of Caleb. Maybe he ran toward the clinic since he looked really sick. I thought to myself as I headed to the clinic. When I got in there, Caleb wasn't there and I had to admit that I got dismayed not seeing him in the wide clinic even though I also felt a bit terrified just a while ago witnessing the hostility in his eyes. It made me pondered as to what I did to him to deserve the hatred in his eyes directed to me. I didn't think bumping on him two days ago could be the reason for that. I supposed he just acted as what everyone did when they meet me. It was as if I had this invisible phrase written on my forehead; HATE ME.

“What can I do for you, hun?” The school nurse, I assumed she was based on her white uniform, smiled at me kindly when she finally noticed my existence. I smiled back bashfully and went toward her.

“It's nothing big. I just cut my thumb with the slide we used in the lab.” I said and showed her my thumb.

“It may look like a superficial wound, but we have to cleanse that or it might get worse. Come, sit here, hun.” She patted the empty chair in front of her desk and I sat there obediently while she tended my wound. “So, I believe you are the niece of the headmistress?”

“Um, yeah. My name's Cassidy, by the way..” I said, feeling a bit awkward. It seemed like everybody knew about me. News do travel fast in this school I guessed.

“That is a pretty name for a pretty young lady as yourself. I'm the school nurse here, as you can see and you can call me Lily or nurse Lily as what everyone used to call me.” She smiled brightly.

“Um, thanks nurse Lily.” I said with a brittle smile on my face. I bet she was just being kind to me when she said I was pretty.

“It's done.” She said as she put an adhesive bandage to cover the small cut on my thumb.

“Thanks. Um, anyway, did another student come here before me?” I asked afterward, curious about Caleb.

“No, why?”

“Nothing. Thanks again nurse Lily. I'll take my leave now.” I said and went out immediately. I was planning to return to the classroom when I accidentally saw Caleb through the window, sitting on the same bench I sat earlier. His eyes were closed as he leaned his head on the back of the bench. He looked so peaceful and... Beautiful. I sighed as I unconsciously propped my elbows on the open window and stared at him from above like a hypnotized soul. There was something about this Caleb guy that made me curious or rather bewitched me to know more about him. This kind of feeling was foreign to me since I had never felt anything this strong before. I was disrupted from my privy sightseeing when a sudden gust of wind blew my hair into disarray. I lazily fixed my hair and turned my gaze back to him afterward only to be astonished. Caleb was now looking straight at me with enmity exuding his eyes---Wait---His eyes... They oddly looked different and scary. I couldn't perfectly see well from above, but I could tell they were not blue anymore. They seemed black. No. More like blood-red. I automatically hid behind the wall, feeling embarrassed to be caught red handed and a bit afraid of him as well. He looked so deadly dangerous, though, the insane part of me, compelled me to look again only to be disappointed to see that he was no longer there. I sighed and walked back to class, shaking my head for the insane imagination I had. “It must be the lights...” I told myself.

====####====

The hours went by quite tediously and I couldn't say, I was glad my last class ended. I was actually feeling a bit of dismay for I wasn't able to see him. I must be getting crazy for wanting to see him even though he obviously hated me. It made me wonder why I was so drawn to him when I didn't even know him that long. Maybe my curiosity made me want to know why he disliked me. That was the only most reasonable excuse I had. I heaved a long sigh of frustration and decided to just walk home so I could clear my mind and be refreshed. Aunt Mary told me to go home first which I was thankful about once again. While I was walking in the hallway, I saw Ruby and her set of friends throwing daggers at me. New school, new haters. I thought ironically as I headed out of school with my head bent down. I plugged my headphones and randomly played a song from my iPod as I started walking on the sidewalk. It was quarter to four and most students were picked up by their parents or private drivers since St. Claire Academy was a prestigious school for the rich. I couldn't see anyone walking besides me. Although, that didn't bother me a tiny bit. After about three-hundred meters of walking, I could finally see some people walking or wandering around the street. I was actually tempted to go inside a jewelry antique shop I saw nearby, but aunt Mary specifically ordered me to go straight home. I let out another sigh. I really loved to collect antique stuff, especially old necklaces. They were just simply classic. Too bad, I won't be collecting anytime soon. Aunt Mary didn't give me enough money to spend, not that I was complaining. The good thing was, my dad left me a sum of money in my trust fund, however, I could only have it on my 18th birthday and that would be until next year. After almost one kilometer of walking continuously, at the roundabout, I took the first exit onto the next road which many trees grew thicker as I passed by. I took my camera out of my backpack which I always carry around with me since the day my dad gave it to me on my last birthday and obviously my last present from him. I fought hard not to drop a single tear as I started snapping some pictures of the beautiful nature at the side of the road. As I was taking some pictures, my camera lens spotted a familiar person by the tree. I almost dropped my expensive camera when I saw he was staring directly at me. I removed the camera from my face and glanced at the same spot he was standing, but there was no one there. No trace of Caleb.

“Cassidy, snap out of it already. Stop thinking about him. See, you're mind is playing tricks on you because you keep on thinking about him.” I grumbled to myself and decided to put my camera back in my bag when a sudden gust of wind went past me. I looked up and saw another beautiful creature standing not very far from me in the opposite direction. He had an average height and probably the same age as me. How did he get there? I was pretty sure, I didn't see anyone walking in this area. I thought to myself as I studied him. He had this somewhat similar paleness and charisma as Caleb. Maybe the only difference was, he didn't appeal to me. I decided to continue on walking, but stopped, when I heard him speak.

“Why such a lovely little girl walking alone, eh?” He asked and smirked at me, flashing his white canine. I, on the other hand, was surprised to hear his voice. It had the same alluring sound as Caleb. He smiled wider, seeing my reaction, showing more of his sharp teeth. I backed away, my instinct screaming danger. He might be a psychopath for all I know, so I ignored him and turned my back on him and started walking only to be stopped by him once again. I was appalled yet again, for I didn't hear his footsteps when he moved swiftly toward me and enclosed his left arm around my waist and his other hand grabbed my right arm and creepily sniffed my wrist.

“Hmmm, you smelled so good, little one.” I suddenly froze when he licked the side of my neck, fearing my impending doom. He might be a drug addict or a mentally disturbed person. If not, he wouldn't do such a strange thing with his odd and creepy behavior. I felt regretful for not taking the bus instead. As I was thinking for a good plan on how to escape, my heart jumped, hearing Caleb's angry voice from behind us. I'd never thought that I would be happy to hear that. I also felt the boy stiffened, but didn't move an inch away from me.

“Let go of the girl.” He commanded with a calm voice, though, there was something compelling about it that I couldn't comprehend. Surprisingly, the stranger let me go and started laughing. I immediately moved away from him as far as I could, but didn't ran off. Instead, I gawked at them curiously. They seemed to know each other and I want to make sure they won't kill each other or something. Also, I had to thank Caleb for saving my ass.

“I was just teasing the little thing. You need not be so furious about it, Caleb. I was just curious as to why you find a liking to this average girl and now I know why...” He said meaningfully and gave me a quick glance which sent shiver down my spine---not the romantic way, but in a creepy-crawly way. Wait! Did he just say, Caleb kinda liked me? No way... He must be joking, right? If anything Caleb had feelings for me, that would be hate. I thought ironically.

“Stop this frivolity, Gustav, or you would suffer the consequence of my wrath.” Caleb ordered, and freaky as it may, or another fabric of my imagination, I did see Caleb's eyes glow into a different color for a split second, but I couldn't be sure since he was a bit far from me and it was too fast.

“Yes, I beg your pardon.” The boy called Gustav bowed slightly. I was kinda baffled listening and looking at them. One thing I was pretty sure about, they knew each other pretty well, but I got confused of their behavior toward each other and the way they speak was so old school.

“Go.” Caleb ordered again and Gustav obediently followed and instantly jumped over the road fence barrier.

“Oh, my God! He... H-e just jumped! Is he crazy?!” I panicked and looked down the steep path down below, but I couldn't see well because of the thick tress and shrubs surrounding and covering the bottom. I could only guessed about fifteen feet high. It might not be too high, but who would in his right mind would just jumped like it was nothing? He really must be a nutcase.

“Imbecile.” I heard Caleb muttered under his breath, probably referring to his stupid friend. I turned my gazed back at him, just in time to see him leaving like he didn't care at all.

“H-hey! Wait!” I called out, still feeling a bit nervous by his strong presence.

“What?” He asked impassively without glancing at me.

“Are you just gonna leave? Your crazy friend just jumped---”

“He is fine.” He said flatly, cutting me off. He then started walking once again.

“Wait! I think we need to make sure he's fine.” I said in a worried tone, but he didn't stop so I ran toward him only to stumble over the gutter. I thought I was going to fall, but somehow, Caleb got to my side extra-fast and caught me before I hit the road with my face.

“What a cumbersome girl you are.” He commented in utter distaste, yet he helped me to stand properly.

“T-hanks...” I murmured shyly. I already knew I was a bit klutzy, but I didn't expect for him to see it. He didn't respond to me, instead, he took his phone from his pocket and dialed something.

“Talk to her.” He ordered on the other line. Then, he handed his phone to me. I hesitantly took it and placed it on my ear just as he gestured for me to do it. “Hello?”

“Hi there, little one. I'm quite fine, if you're so inclined to know. I wouldn't mind visiting you one of these days, if you would be so kind to invite m---” Caleb grabbed the phone from me and ended the call. He was really strange, so was his friend. They were a bunch of handsome weirdos, but somehow I felt they were harmless.

“Now that you know he's fine, you may now be at peace.” He said with his usual cold voice and walked away.

“Do you live around this area or nearby?” I asked curiously as I started following him. He was walking in the same route as mine so I decided to walk with him which was a rare case to happen. I wouldn't say, I was a standoffish, but I was also not amiable. I tend to shun away from people, especially, strangers and Caleb was still under my stranger's list. However, I couldn't stop myself from being drawn to him, like there was an invincible thread that was pulling me to him. I must be too busy thinking for I didn't realize he'd already stopped walking, so I inadvertently hit my face into his hard back like a deja vu. I got flustered and was rendered speechless when Caleb, without a word, held my face, disabling me to move.

“I'm a tad curious...” He uttered in a whisper and looked into my eyes. I couldn't move and say anything while staring into his hypnotizing eyes. “Would you jump from a cliff, if I tell you so?” He asked the question like a hypnosis and once again, I saw the blue specks of his eyes glowed and changed into a darker shade between red and black. I shook my head to clear my vision, in case I was imagining again, and maybe I was right since his eyes were back to a normal blue again.

“Did your eyes, chan---Wait, what did you say? Jump from a cliff? Why would I do that?” I asked in total bewilderment. Although, I was glad that I stopped myself from asking a weird question. Caleb might think that I was losing my mind which probably a forthcoming if I kept on seeing uncanny things.

“I thought so... You are a peculiar one.” He muttered afterward, more likely to himself and ignored my confusion.

“What are you talking about?”

“Forget about what I've said.” I let it go, thinking that he had a twisted idea of a joke.

“Um, Do you... Er, um, why do you hate me?” I bravely asked, a bit relieved for finally voicing my thoughts that had been nagging me since we had first met. He looked at me for a few seconds, assessing my expression, then sighed afterward.

“I don't hate you.” He replied curtly and started to walk again, but stopped after a few yard steps and gave me a shock after another when he said, “However, I'd wish for you to stay away from me.”
