CHAPTER 1

ONCE UPON A TIME

There was screams, loud screams, screams of agony and excruciating pain.

Two different women were giving birth to two children at the exact same time. These weren’t twins. They were better, because the time they were born was precisely the same; that was a sign that the birth of these two children was meant for something extraordinary to happen.

These children were born in times of dukes and duchess, in a realm faraway. It was a boy and a girl, and their parents lived in a small town. Despite being born at the same time, nothing between them was the same; their lives were very different.

Because one was more fortunate than the other; that was the girl. She was a daughter of a noble man in town, whom everyone respected. And that was the time he finally got a baby after a long time; and that was his pride. She was his pride and joy.

Lots of respected people came to visit and congratulate him and see the beautiful girl. She was truly beautiful, even with her little baby face everyone could see her beauty. She was admirable and adorable, everyone loved her the very second they saw her. And automatically, she was famous already. Even before she could open her eyes, or even before she could recognize her own parents.

The boy on the other hand his parents were happy and proud all the same. But there was a difference, only a few people knew that he was born. Nobody saw how beautiful he was. In fact his parents could hardly afford clothes to cover him. They dressed him in patchwork, for it was all they had.

He wasn’t famous, and not so many people cared if he was born. In fact his parents were worried about the kind of life he was going to have. Since they didn’t have enough to provide a good life they wanted him to have. Because they were just cheap labors of the noble man, the girl’s father. And their boss wasn’t very generous.

So they lived in the small house that they were offered by their boss, only because the mother of the boy was an excellent cook.

The girl got lots of gifts from all kinds of people. Whether it was clothes or things to play with, and blessings; she got all those. She was quite blessed you might say. She had everything and more were coming. Since her father wasn’t just a rich man but also a respected leader, so whether it was a business man or a politician, all came.

The boy unfortunately, was born the same day and it was just outside the rich man’s house, few steps away on the right. Where everyone could just pass by and congratulate the mother, but it wasn’t that way. Instead while other workers congratulated the mother of the boy, the boss sent a message that they were supposed to be quiet and that noises were not allowed.

And they weren’t supposed to walk around while his guest were still there. So it was like the odds weren’t in boy’s favor, because people stopped visiting him. They were afraid they could get fired. His parents however, didn’t really care if there was someone coming or not. All that mattered to them was that, they were going to do everything in their power to make sure he was going to have a good life.

There was no day off with this man. He wanted his workers to work all the time, and even when you get sick, he wanted to you to be there. If you wouldn’t be, he was going to find another person to replace you.

So three days after the boy was born, his mother went back to work. Only because she was the chief chef of the rich man, so she could give instructions to other workers from home, through a young girl who worked with her in the kitchen.

And because the rich man was very busy with his guests and he was in a good mood, he wasn’t checking on anything. And everyone had a relief because of that, including the boy’s mother.

The rich man was a harsh and hot tempered man, every one of his workers was afraid of him. He wasn’t approachable and definitely not friendly. Though other rich people thought it was important, in order to be able to make people respect him. Besides, he was an important person in the town, everyone expected him to act that way.

The village had lots of improvement because of him. Almost everyone had a job, though they weren’t very profitable, but still, could make people go through with life.

His wife was completely a different person. She wasn’t as scary as her husband, she was friendly and lovely. She loved all her workers, and from time to time she gave them bonus, adding to the salary at the end of the month, when her husband was distracted with his leadership.

People respected her too. But in a different way, not out of fear but out of love. They loved her, and somehow they wished that she was the leader, instead of her husband. But she always respected and loved her husband, so she respected and obeyed her husband, even though he was harsh to everyone, even to her.

She knew the reason why. He was raised in that kind of life, so she understood why he was very harsh. His father was a rich business man and a tyrant. He was cruel to people and his own family; he used to beat his mother as well. So him being harsh, was the effect of his Father’s actions.

He being harsh but taking care of his family was an improvement from his father’s attitudes and she was thankful for it. The mother of the girl sent gifts to the mother of the boy among lots of gifts her girl received, and the boy’s parents couldn’t thank her enough for her kindness. At least their boy had something good, even though there was nothing they could afford to buy for him.

She was too kind, and she didn’t choose who to show kindness. She treated every one equally, and that’s what made her loved so much.

Both boy’s parents were very kind. Though they didn’t have much to offer, that didn’t stop them to share what they had with others. Nobody loved them or noticed them, to people they were just workers of a rich man.

Somehow people felt sorry for them, because they worked in a house of a cold hearted man. But it wasn’t that way with them, it was different. They liked to be there because the wife of their boss was very kind and treated them well. And also the rich man never bothered anybody, unless they did something wrong. So it wasn’t as bad as it looked from people’s eyes.

As the matter of fact, the boy’s parents were happy because both of them could work; the mother worked in the kitchen as chef, and her husband worked for the farm of the rich man. It was an exhausting job and long, from morning to evening. Actually most men worked in farms, and women stayed home taking care of little children, and older ones joined their fathers. Since that was their first child, the father went to the farm on his own until the boy could become old enough to go with him.

Trying to find the names of their children; these two families thought of the best name they could find, and which were suitable for their children.

CHAPTER 2

“Jonathan, what do you think we should call our girl?” the wife of the rich man asked her husband one evening, when they were having dinner. Even though she knew that he wouldn’t have the slightest idea, she did it just out of concern for her husband. So that he wouldn’t be so surprised when he found out that his girl already has a name, and he wasn’t informed.

“I don’t know Jane, did you have a name in your mind?” her husband asked off minded, as if it was something that didn’t concern him at all.

He never thought of anything other than his work, much less thinking of a name to give to a baby. Yes, she was his daughter and he loved her, but giving her a name was her mother’s duty.

“Well, I thought of Rose or Rosalyn like a beautiful flower.” the girl’s mother explained to her husband very pleased with her choice of name.

“I think that will suit her.” the girl’s father agreed curtly, he was never interested in anything else. If it’s not politics or money, it wasn’t his problem.

He put the fork down and head out of dinning, leaving his wife there by herself.

But that wasn’t surprising to her because she was used to that by now. There was no any conversation she made that seemed to interest her husband, and this was one of them. He wasn’t even interested in talking about his own daughter. Sometimes she even wondered if he married her just because he was told to, but if he could he wouldn’t have gotten married to her at all.

But the thing is, what’s done is done. She was married to a cold hearted man, and she was supposed to keep up with him for the rest of her life. It was really sad though, how she never got to know true love. The one she was reading in books when she was younger, instead ending up with him. Someone she could never understand fully. She could never know when he was happy or sad. She only knew when he was angry.

He was always cold and unreachable. She tried to be a good wife, sensitive, caring and listen to everything he said but that didn’t help. He always stayed the same. Unfortunately, she ended up believing that true love is just a fantasy that she used to hear about and read about, but doesn’t exist. Never existed.

The boy’s parents thought of the name to give their child too. And they thought of David, the strong, courageous and kind king back in the old days, and they wanted their boy to be just like him.

“Richard, David is a beautiful name,” his mother said happily to his father because he was the one with the idea.

“Oh, Rebecca, it’s because our son is very handsome, that’s why I chose a beautiful name for him.” he stretched his arm to pull his wife close while they were sitting on the couch, after a long day of hard work and the boy was asleep.

“Well, that will be a perfect name for him then,” Rebecca willingly and swiftly moved under her husband’s strong arms and rested her head on his chest just under his chin. There was no doubt that they truly loved each other, even after they have gotten a baby and exhaustion from hard work; they could still find time to comfort each other, it was obvious their love was still fresh. Unlike the girl’s parents these two knew what love is. What it was like to be in love, even though they went through trouble in the beginning, but they survived.

So, the boy and the girl were called Rosalyn and David. They had a completely different life from each other.

Even the way they were raised was different. The girl could have anything she wanted, but the boy not much, in fact he learned to cultivate when he was still very young.

Well, even the way their parents lived with them was different. Rosalyn’s mother used to stay with her baby at home and watch over her all the time. She was with her baby almost all the time. But for David’s mother, it was different, she hardly had time for her son because she always had lots of works to do. So she had to leave her son with the young girl that worked with her in the kitchen, like half a day. And when she got a break, that was time she would see her son, and in the evening.

It was a good thing that David wasn’t a stubborn child. He would stay with any one, as long as he had food to eat. He was a lovely child. All the workers liked him, and almost everyone wanted to stay with him. From time to time they did, and that made it very easy for his mother and father.

They could work and at the same time take care of him without any problem. And it was that way almost all his first few years of growing up. He would, and he was used to be with everyone.

As for the girl, she had lots of maids attending for her. Even though her mother was with her, still her father assigned maids to make sure she would get anything she wanted, when she wanted it. He didn’t want to hear his child even once, cry; and as he wanted it was that way.

CHAPTER 3

She was a very special girl, she smiled at anyone she saw. She cried only when she was sick, and apart from that, she always smiled. Even a little thing could make her laugh. Lots of people, the ones who saw her, said she resembled her mother and nothing from her father, apart from the look a little.

As the days were passing, Rosalyn and David grew up. They started walking and talking, and somehow they grew up to have the same personality. Even though they didn’t know each other or even see each other, still people who met them wondered. They were surprised how identical they were! Though it was only people from outside who noticed it, their parents had no clue about that.

And people didn’t talk about it, for it was forbidden to compare a cheap child with the child of most respected and rich person in town. So they kept it to themselves and just watched and hoped that things would change when they grow up. After all, they were just children who knew nothing. Anything can happen on the process of growing up.

Days moved to months, and months to years. And as the time passed, the more the two kids grew. The girl grew to be like a princess, and the boy was just like any other kids around; but their personality didn’t change, they were still nice and sweet. And when they started talking their first word was water, both of them said that same word when they started talking. But not many people managed to notice that, and the ones who noticed kept it to themselves.

They watched to see what was going to happen, because they never saw anything like that before. Two children born with different parents, but acting like identical twins. The unusual identical twins, because even identical twins has their differences.

The problem was that they had completely different lives, so comparing them was just theoretical nothing seemed to go anywhere. They would never have met, not with the life they lived, so the people thought.

It was no use to pay attention to such thing. And it was that way every one eventually came to forget about the girl and the boy, and they lived without paying attention to them either.

****

While growing Rosalyn had lots of visitors; she didn’t even know most of them and they would bring her lots of gifts, she had too many gift that she had a room full of dolls and other childish things, and she could hardly use even half of them.

Many people would think that she would grow up to be a spoiled little brat, but it was completely different with her; she never really cared how many things she was given. She always seemed like she was looking for something invincible, something only her knew what it was.

And she was quite good from her heart, and she wasn’t the kind of child like the rich kids are. The power to do what she wanted never really seemed to get into her. Because in all those things she always felt like something was missing, not even she knew what it was, may be that the reason she never paid attention to anything.

David by the way, learnt to work and by the age of five he helped his mom and dad with little things like, cleaning their little house and other days he could escort his father to the farm; he was quite a persistent boy, even though he could come very tired and fall asleep right away. That didn’t stop him from wanting to go the next day.

He didn’t have any dolls or things to play with, his play ground was his mom’s kitchen or his father’s farm; he never complained why he didn’t have anything to play with, or why he was with his parents all the time, everything was just fine to him.

Both children were happy with their lives, David felt like he had everything he wanted with him, and he needed nothing else just his father and mother, the two people he wanted to see every day and spend time with; that’s what made his day exciting and whole.

But things were different with Rosalyn, because she always wondered, not in a sad way, no, she was happy with her life too, but she felt something was missing; because she was always surrounded with maids, and she was always locked inside playing with her toys and dolls and sometimes she got tired of them. She wanted to talk to a real person and play like other kids her own age.

But that chance didn’t seem to come, because she never got out she had people visiting her, but she never visited anyone and she wondered, what really the problem was; why couldn’t she get out.

With all her mother’s kindness and goodness though, she never went against her husband command unnecessarily, and she never saw any harm Rosalyn staying in all the time because she was raised that way with her parents. She got out only when she was old enough, and that was what she was going to do to her daughter.

She had her teacher coming at home, teaching her how to read and calculations and history and many other things. And that was the only time Rosalyn enjoyed, because she could ask questions and learn and read stories; that was the time she actually got to hear about the outside world, outside her castle.

She was very close with her teacher and after every class she would tell her something about outside world, like telling her about rivers, and forests, and mountains, and rains and so many other things.

With her young age it was surprising how clever and understanding she was; and she was so curious to see all those things by herself, and because she was so interested in studying she could catch up things very fast and that made her father very proud,

By the age of seven, she already knew more things than she was supposed to for her age, she surprised everyone. Her father’s respect grew through the town that he raised his daughter well, and at the age of seven she was clever than any other children her own age in town.

David had a different life in his childhood, he could do anything he wanted, whether it was playing, or going to the woods; freedom was the one thing that he never asked for, but the good thing is he never abused his freedom.

He would help his parents every morning before he could go to play. And that helped his parents to trust him, though some days he wouldn’t get time to play because he was helping his parents with works, those days which there was lots of works, he never complained, he understood.

Considering his age, he was too wise for his own age, he seemed to see things differently not in a bad way, he just understood things like, his family’s condition he knew they were poor, and that was okay with him.

Unlike Rosalyn, David never went to school or even had a teacher. His parents knew how to read a little, and they never paid much attention to those things, because to them it was waste of money.

They could hardly afford enough for themselves, they had no plan of using it on something that won’t help their son in any way, so David learnt a little that his parents knew, but he was a clever boy, he managed to read quite well a little bit better than his parents.

At the age of eight David grew to be a brave, hardworking, and strong boy. Then Jonathan needed somebody to take care of the horses, he was looking for a stable boy; he didn’t want someone from outside. He wanted someone who could be around and not coming from far, most importantly someone he could trust or at least someone reliable.

CHAPTER 4;

Most of the people were scared to go and work there; because they heard that the worker will teach his girl to ride a horse as well. That means that person will take care of the horses and be a teacher.

And no kidding, that job was much tougher that it looked, because everyone knew how much Jonathan loved his girl. So that means if the teacher would make a mistake and let the girl get hurt or even a scratch, he would make him disappear and nobody was ready to risk that, so there was no volunteers.

Well, David on the other hand was not scared of him, in many ways, he could see him differently. He saw how he treated his workers, harshly with no remorse but still he didn’t scare him.

Besides David loved horses, he liked to see people riding them. He just didn’t imagine he would get a chance of taking care of them, so once he found out that there was no one to take the spot, he decided to take it, even though he didn’t know how to ride a horse and he was just a boy. He didn’t care, but he got a plan which he thought would work, but the problem was his parents once he told them that he wanted to take the job,

“David are you out of your mind?” his father shouted anger flashed on his eyes, and worry with disbelief,

“Are sure about this? And what makes you think that he would accept to hire you, besides you don’t know anything about horses? How are you going to teacher his daughter? And don’t forget that you are just a boy?” his mother attacked him with questions one after the other, strangely they couldn’t break him, he kept on what he wanted to tell them,

“I’ve thought about all that, and I’ve made up my mind. I have a plan if it will fail I won’t try to do it again,” he explained confidently and unshaken,

“Absolutely not, do you know who he is? He is not a person to joke around with especially considering your age,” his father refused strongly, putting emphasis on the last part hoping it will scare him. It wasn’t with bad intention, he wanted to save his son from Jonathan’s fury.

“Don’t worry Richard, he won’t hurt him, because he never treated children harshly. I think we should give David a chance and see.” thankfully his mother wasn’t as worried as his father, so she helped his father understand,

“Okay, how do you plan on telling him?” his father asked

“I will tell him tomorrow in the evening when he will be back from work,” David replied calmly as if it was just a simple thing,

“And what is this plan of yours?” his mother asked him,

“I can’t tell you, you will ruin it, just wait and see.”

“Okay.” his mother agreed,

“Just be sure with what you are doing. He is not a person to temper with,” still his father was cautious about what his son was going to do.

But David assured him “I am dad.”

“Okay, till tomorrow then.”

David went to sleep thinking about his big day the following day. He was very excited, while his parents weren’t very confident about what their son wanted to do, but there was nothing they could do, because David seemed very sure about that, so they just needed to sit back and see what was going to happen.

Strangely, despite everyone being afraid of Jonathan, the rich man; David wasn’t afraid of him and he didn’t see him any differently from his own father. The only difference was that he was rich and his father was not, but other way around he was just like any other father. The following morning his mother woke him up because he over slept a little,

It was an exciting day for David, and he couldn’t wait for evening to come and talk to Jonathan; though his parents were nervous for him he wasn’t. He went to work with his mother that day, because his father didn’t want him to get too tired by working with him and fail to talk to Jonathan.

And working in the kitchen there was no much to do, because there was workers in everything, maybe he could help with simpler things like giving his mom a knife and pan and things like that. So, he had lot of time to think about what he was going to tell Jonathan.

And because he didn’t have any watch with him, he used shades and the longer they became that meant time was getting closer. He was very excited; and when it was almost time, he told his mother that he wanted to go and wait for him at the gate so that he won’t miss him.

“David, you can’t go now because it’s not time yet. Besides, nobody is allowed to play around his door, so wait a little bit longer,” his mother said patiently.

“No mom I’m gonna miss him, and he is going to give somebody else my place and I really want to work for the horses. I can’t miss this chance.” he said persistently,

“I know but I also know that it’s not time yet, so go play a little bit longer, and I will call you if the time comes.”

“Promise me, you won’t forget,” he made his mother promise,

“I promise,” she replied.

He went to play, and unfortunately, he got a little bit too caught up in his own things that he forgot it was almost time to get ready and go talk to the rich man. As his mother thought. His mother looked for him everywhere, but she couldn’t find him, and she almost thought that he has given up or he changed his mind.

She asked every one that she saw if they saw David anywhere, but they said they haven’t seen him. She went to look for him at the gate hoping to find him because she thought maybe he didn’t listen to her and went to wait for him anyway, but he wasn’t at the gate either. She started to worry, and because the evening was almost up she had lots of work, so she went back to the kitchen and finish up preparing dinner for Jonathan’s family, and she was still worried.

“Mom, how do I look, is it time already?” that was David talking, asking his mom’s opinion on his clothes.

“Thank god David; where have you been? I’ve been looking everywhere for you, but no need to answer that, you look smart, I didn’t know you have such clothes!” his mother said in amazement,

“Just the usual dad helped me clean it up,” He said proudly,

“Okay, go now it almost time it won’t be long until he arrives, just be careful with what you say, okay?” she said as she pulled David in a little hug before letting him go.

“Okay mom,” David said quietly under his Mother’s chest, and then he was let go.

David left the kitchen and went to the main door waiting for Jonathan, and on his way there, he kept looking at himself if he was presenting enough. Though he wasn’t nervous before, this time he was, but not that much because his happiness took over his nervousness.

He waited there for quite a while until it was almost dark, but he didn’t give up, he kept waiting until Jonathan the rich man came. Unfortunately, it wasn’t one of his greatest days; he seemed angry from the look of his face, and somehow for the first time David understood why people were scared of him.

CHAPTER 5

He had a different look, not like that of his father; a kind, loving and welcoming gaze, but instead this one was full of fury, like he wanted to swallow something. But that didn’t stop David from pursuing his goal, so he went straight to the chariot and he called him,

“Excuse me Sir,” he called out loud, but respectfully, only enough for him to hear him, because he was short.

“Young man, go home this is not a place for people like you,” the rich man chauffer said.

David didn’t listen, he kept insisting on calling him, even after he got out of the chariot,

And the chauffer kept arguing with him, “young man I told you to go home. He doesn’t want to talk to people at this time.”

“But I want to talk to him. If you didn’t block my way I would’ve been gone by now.” David said angrily at him, and he gave him a sick glare; because he wasn’t ready to give up yet.

“What does he want?” suddenly Jonathan interfered

David started to explain himself right away “sir, I was wondering if you could hire me as a stable boy, to take care of the horses” he sounded confident, almost convincing that he could actually do it.

“No, I can’t,” Jonathan refused blatantly, “because; first you are too young, and second you can’t ride a horse, so you can’t teach my daughter to ride a horse.”

“I know that sir, my suggestion was that you hire me to take care of the horses and you go look for a teacher to teach your daughter how to ride a horse,” he suggested sternly, from the sound of it, you might think it was someone grown talking.

“So you want me to pay double wages for a single job, that’s absurd,” Jonathan said curtly, and he started heading to his house.

“I don’t care about the money,” suddenly David skipped close to him and kept convincing him, “I won’t mind if you won’t pay me or if you’ll pay me the lowest wage I don’t mind. I love horses and this is my chance to be with them, so please sir,” David pleaded and somehow he convinced Jonathan at least to think about it,

“Okay, let me think about it,” Jonathan curtly ended the conversation, but he liked the boy, he was different. There was no any child in town who could talk to him like that, so considering what the child suggested wasn’t all that bad.

Jonathan went to his house. And David went back home to his parents, and he was very happy because according to what his parents told him that was practically a yes. He just didn’t say it directly.

That night seemed to be too long for David, because he couldn’t wait for morning to come up and hear what Jonathan was going to say. So he kept rolling on his bed from this side to the other until it was almost morning. Then, he woke up and he finished his shores even before his parents could wake up. And right at the time Jonathan was leaving for work. He went near his Chariot again and waited for his answer, and when the chauffer saw him he went to him.

“Very courageous boy, you’re hired. But you have to prove to him that you fit for the job first,” he told David

“Got it, I won’t disappoint him,” David answered joyously, like his dream was finally coming true, at least for once. He could get one of the biggest things he always wished for.

*****

David started his job right away and he worked all day long. You see, a rich man doesn’t just have a few horses; there was a long line of stables and quite a number of horses. He was very exhausted when evening came, but some good came out of it: he was extremely happy.

It was exciting for him to be around horses. Despite his young age, he worked insanely well, and produced better results than anyone had expected. In order to make sure this hard work was not a one-time phenomenon, he was given a couple more days to prove that he could consistently work hard. What they didn’t know was that the work actually became easier for him.

Previous to his employment, no one had really been taking care of the stables, so the work had piled up. Since he had managed to get most of the work done on the first day, the stables only needed some simple routine cleaning; this was fairly easy, and he performed his duties quickly and efficiently.

Well, things got better and better for him because he gained skills every day. And the job became easier and easier, so Jonathan was left with no choice but hire him after all, permanently this time. He worked there for weeks; he didn’t see anyone coming to teach the daughter and he was a little bit disappointed; for he was so eager to see this famous girl, because he heard she was the most beautiful of all the town girls of her age. Besides, it could have been a privilege to see her, since not lots of people got to see her.

After working for a month with horses; one morning he was working. And one of the guards came and told him to get the white horse ready, which means that was the day she was starting her lessons; he was very excited because, it was the day he was going to see her finally.

But unfortunately, it wasn’t that simple to see her. Because he wasn’t allowed to be around when she was coming, so he didn’t really see her that day or the day after. Every day that Rosalyn was having her lessons; David was supposed to get to work very early and leave before she could come, and he wasn’t allowed to make a mistake on that, the boss saw his daughter as a princess of some kind; he didn’t want her to be seen with a cheap worker and a child.

So, David was strictly forbidden to be around when Rosalyn was having her lessons. And it stayed that way for a long time, even after she knew how to ride a horse. It was too long that David lost hope of ever seeing her, because he kept working for four years and not once he ever got a chance to see her; even by coincidence.

The odds were completely not in his favor, so he wondered and wondered until he stopped wondering and gave up. Four more years passed and now David was a pro on the job he was doing, working on stables; it was like his home and he was starting to impress Jonathan, because not once did he complain or quit working like other people, but he never said it out loud, it’s not easy to impress Jonathan or the boss.

Some people worked for him their entire life, but they never impressed him. But one day he almost screwed things up for him; he was done with work that day and he left before Rosalyn could come for practice, but, he forgot his hat in one of the stalls.

So he came back for it. And at that time Rosalyn wasn’t back home yet, so she was still practicing. He took his hat as soon as he got there, because he knew where he left it, but he was too eager to see her; he thought that was like the only chance he was going to get in his life. At the end of the stables there was a door which led to the plain field where Rosalyn practiced.

The door wasn’t closed completely, so he could somehow see the other side of the door. But he was afraid to go and take a peek because he was afraid if someone was going to see him stalking the daughter of the boss, he would get into real trouble.

CHAPTER 6

But his curiosity got the best of him; he told himself that he would just take a peek and then leave like he was never there. What he never knew was that the girl was like nothing he ever imagined in his head. The real Rosalyn was so much prettier than the imaginary her.

He went towards the door and looked eagerly to see her the girl riding a horse. To finally see her for the first time, but he didn’t see her right away, and when he saw her riding that white horse fiercely and beautifully, she seemed very skillful. And when he came to look at her face, she was like nothing he ever imagined. She was very pretty with shiny eyes, and beautifully curved lips, and blonde hairs which looked like pure gold under the sun and they were shimmering.

A pretty young lady his own age, actually the same age because they were born the same day. The girl took all his attention and forgot that he was just taking a peek, so he kept looking until he found himself leaning at the door, which was a bad move because he alerted the guard who was watching over Rosalyn to make sure she wouldn’t get hurt or do anything stupid like trying to sneak away. Apart from being sweet, sometimes she could be pretty mischievous young lady and her father knew that,

“What are you doing here? You are not supposed to be here” the guard said, his eyes burning with anger,

“Sorry, I came to take my hat and I was going to leave” David explained nervously and worriedly,

“Okay leave now before you get into trouble” the guard warned him, and David nodded quietly without saying a word, because that was mercy he was doing to him because he was supposed to report him right away; but he didn’t, and David was thankful for that,

David turned around and left, he heard Rosalyn asking the guard who he was, but the guard said nobody. Hearing that was good enough for David, because he thought maybe she had seen him before, or she has heard of him like the way he knows about her.

It didn’t matter any way because that was one of the exciting days to him because he finally saw her. That whole day while he was working with his father at the farm all he was thinking about was the girl; he couldn’t real erase her from his mind.

The truth is he real wanted to see her again. So seeing her wasn’t the solution for his desire to see her, but it was just the fuel to make him want more than just seeing her. He wanted really bad to talk to her this time to hear her voice, how her voice sounded like, if it was beautiful or not.

And an urge started to grow inside him, something he never felt before; something new, desire, attraction and the rise of his pulse whenever he thought of her. And this was a big surprise to him.

He went home that day and he was still thinking about her, he still couldn’t put her away from his mind. Yet a part of him thought that it was a bad idea peeking at her because if it wasn’t for that, he wouldn’t have been struggling all day to shake her out of his mind.

What’s worse, when he went to sleep he dreamt about her. They were riding a horse together; he put his arms around her perfect body which sent electric sparks through his body, and they were both laughing hard, then the strangest thing happened she told him that she loves him. David actually believed all that, but the disappointment occurred when he woke up and discovered that it was just a dream, not real. He got off the bed unwillingly because he wanted it to be real so bad, and when he found out he was just making all that in his mind, he felt really bad.

It was early in the morning, his mother was making breakfast; his father wasn’t up yet, he always woke early with his mother to help with shores. And his mother had to prepare breakfast both for them and Jonathan’s family. And unlike their breakfast which was a little simple, tea and bread. Jonathan was always having a whole buffet.

His mother always had to wake up early than others, and he always helped her, though not much because there were maids too, but it had become a tradition ever since he was little he used to spend time in the kitchen with his mother for a while before going to his routines. And that went on until he became a teenager.

That day was the longest day to David because he kept wondering about the girl he saw, and she kept sticking in his mind and no matter what he did; no matter how hard he tried to think about something else he couldn’t. When he was working in the stables, he could see her riding on the horse over and over again; unfortunately, being alone was making it worse for him.

He finished working in the middle of the day and he was free, he had nothing to do, and that meant, all that left was to think about a girl he saw riding a horse. He had to stop thinking about her, for he knew for sure that was wrong because he finally understood what being friend with her meant; first he could lose his job and his family will be thrown out, so that gave him more motivation to stop thinking about her.

And a proper way to help him forget about her, was to follow his father to the farms, it was the middle of the day and the farms were a little bit far, but it didn’t matter that was the only solution he had in mind at that time.

He took off and he arrived a little bit late in the afternoon and his father was very surprised and asked him right after he saw him,

“David, what are you doing here is everything okay at home?” his face was full of worry,

“Yah, everything is fine, I was just bored because I finished working very early and there was nothing left to do that’s why I decided to come here.” and it was pretty obvious from the way he talked,

“Oh, no problem then come help me over here it’s almost evening and this wheat needs to be moved before sun down.” and this time his expression completely changed, and he was happy to have his son there with him. Even though it was a late afternoon.

He helped his father until they finished, but his father noticed something unusual while they were working. David never said a single word ever since their conversation when he arrived. He seemed much stressed like something was bothering him, and actually that was a surprise to his father because David was never stressed before with anything.

But today, he was very much. He couldn’t hide it, but his father didn’t ask him, he waited to make sure there was something wrong with him. At first he assumed may be David was fired, and because he loved working for the horses so much, it was okay for him to be stressed. But he never seemed to be okay, even on their way home David kept being quiet, and even when his father tried to make conversation; he would answer shortcut answers. Then after a while, his father got tired of his strange acting,

“Are okay?” he asked with a little frustrated concerned look on his eyes,

“I’m okay, why do you ask?” David answered, like his father returned him from a depth of thoughts or something,

“Because you are not your usual self-that’s why, did something happen where you work?” finally his father couldn’t keep it anymore, and he brought it up because he couldn’t find any other way,

“What do you mean something happen? Something like what?” David asked his face frowned a little out of confusion,

CHAPTER 7

“Like being fired, because you’ve worked there longer than anyone that I know, so if you are its okay to,” he tried to explain and lessen the tension, but he couldn’t finish the sentence.

David cut his father short “I’m not dad, I’m still working there,” he told his father shortly.

“So what is it then? Just tell me?” now his father was practically begging to help him, but that didn’t work either, David wasn’t willing to open up,

“I would’ve told you, but I think this is something I need to figure out on my own father.” and after that, it was pretty clear that he wasn’t going to tell him anything,

“Okay, but if you need help just tell me, okay,” he understood him because he knew his son; he was an independent person. He was raised that way, so most of his things he did, he did them on his
