*things in here are Hazel's thoughts*
!Hazel!
Hiya! My name is Hazel Fonst. I'm fourteen years old and about to become a freshman in high school. Because of my dad's job, I'm moving to Los Angeles, California from Arabi, Louisiana, with my mom, dad, and older brother. That's about it, oh yeah! I'm deaf.
Right now I'm in the car with my family on our way to California. I see my father pulling up in a gas station, and his lips are moving fast, so he's probably not talking to me. Then I feel Hale, my older brother, tap my arm. I turn to him and smile, he smiles back and signs 'Do you want anything?' I shake my head no. Dad filled up the car and we leave again.
We stop at a hotel to stay for the night; I meet my family in the lobby after I woke up in the backseat. They were getting our rooms, a single for mom and dad, and a double for me and Hale. I feel eyes staring at me, so I turn to see two young men, 24 or 25 staring at my hearing aids. To be honest, I don't need these hearing aids, they don't even work. I only have them so people know I'm deaf, and can't hear them. I smile at them and they just look away. *It's always gonna be like this, isn't it*
After being on the road again, we stopped at a big, two-story house. It looked pretty old, but still livable. Me and Hale jumped out the car at the chance to stretch our legs. My dad signed 'Welcome to our new house kids' I smiled at him, and ran up to the house. The door was open so I walked in and went upstairs. I chose a big bedroom with a small bathroom. Its walls were a sky blue and mint green; it had a big bed with no bedspread. The room had a walk in closet and mirror attached to the wall. I looked out the window and saw trees, trees, and more trees. *Nature sure is beautiful*My parents and older brother got everything inside, and we adjusted into our new lives.
It has now been a week since I moved to California, and I'm always spending my extra time in the woods by a small river. I like to take my sketch pad up there and draw all the different sceneries. Right now, I'm sitting in my special spot and feel movement on the ground. I turn and see a dog walking to me, a boy slowly following behind him. His lips are moving but too fast, I can't understand him. His expression turns to anger and he throws his arms in the air. I pull my fiery red hair back, so he could see my hearing aids. He noticed them and came up to me, now he was talking at a readable speed.
"What are you doing here? The woods aren't a place for a girl, and especially not a deaf one!" He said with an angry expression. I started signing, then realized that he doesn't know sign language. I spoke to him with a somewhat annoyed look on my face. "I was just drawing, I like to draw places like these." He stared at me at me in awe.
                                                                       !Carter!
What's up? My name is Carter Kackston, just a normal 15 year-old sophomore with a bad attitude. I live with my dad and bro. Since my mom died, it's just been my dad, my brother, and me.
I'm walking in the woods with my dog, Baggy. I found him after school and just took him in. Anyway, we were walking in the woods when Baggy caught a scent. I followed him to a small river, where a girl sat on the ground. She had a sketch pad in hand and was drawing at a rapid speed. I tried calling out her, but she didn't react. Baggy took two steps toward the girl, and she turned her head as if she was surprised. I tried talking to her, but she didn't say anything. I got annoyed and threw my hands up exasperated.
She then pulled back her beautifully straight fiery red hair, to reveal some manila colored hearing aids. I blew a fuse just thinking, *What the hell is an effing deaf girl in the woods for?* "What are you doing here? The woods aren't a safe place for a girl, and especially not a deaf one!" She looked at me slightly annoyed then spoke.
"I was just drawing. I like to draw places like these." She looked at me with her hazel eyes. Her voice was melody to my ears; I could listen to it all day. "What's your name?" I asked her slowly. She replied still looking somewhat annoyed, "Hazel." She said in a low voice, then smiled at me. I was mesmerized by the beauty. She got up, waved bye, and walked off. I went home, her smile invading my mind.
"Welcome home son!" My dad, Carl, said in a loud, excited voice. "Were you doing good today? How was school last Friday?" My older brother, Carson, was on the couch watching TV not paying attention to me. Then his voice penetrated the silence I created, "Welcome back, Dude." I nodded at him and went to my room and lay down. I stared at the ceiling, until my eyes drifted into sleep.
                                                                             *Hazel*
After my encounter with the boy in woods, I went home just like any other day. I was greeted with the smell of chocolate chip cookies. "I'm home!" I say loudly. My dad comes into view. 'How are you sweetie?' he signs. 'Fine' I signed back. I went upstairs to my room to get on my computer. I went to a site so me and my friends could talk to each other.
My friend Lanie Vakes, Jesse Noltmon, and Jace Harris, were all signed on. I decided to have a chat with them:
Hayfon signed on.
Hayfon: Hey Every1!
Lavie: Hey Chika!
Jessen: What's up shortie!
Jaceh: Sup' Hay!
Jessen: Is everything going good?
Lavie: Meet any cute guys yet?
Jaceh: Did u start skool yet?
Hayfon: Ok. Yes. No ;)
Lavie: Oooh! Wats his h and e?
Jessen: Wats h and e?
Lavie & Hayfon: Girl Talk! >:(
Hayfon: Brown and Brown!
Lavie: Ooooh! Sweet!
I saw something flash in the corner of my eyes, and turn around. It's my doorbell. It's designed to flash to get my attention when someone presses the button outside my door. I open my door, and see Hale with a bright smile on his face. 'Dinner's ready' he signs. I nod and shut my door.
Hayfon: GTG! TTYL
Lavie: Bye Chika!
Jessen: L8R Shorty!
Jaceh: Sionara!
Hayfon signed off.
I shut down my computer, and went downstairs. Mom was grabbing the vegetables, Dad was getting plates, and Hale was setting the table's silverware. I sat down at my seat after they were done and began eating. Dad started signing, 'School starts on Tomorrow. Are you excited?' I shake my head and he laughs.
When dinner was over, I took a shower and settled down in my room. I pulled out a book and got engrossed in it. When I finished the book, I looked at my clock, it read 11:00. It was late so I decided to go to sleep. I turned off the light and drifted into unconciousness.
I awoke to my phone alarm vibrating on my bed. I turned it off and went to go take shower. After I was out, I got dressed and brushed my teeth. I looked in the mirror; my fiery red hair fell smoothly around my face. I applied a very thin layer of make-up. A light brown eye shadow, eyeliner, and no blush. I walked downstairs and got some breakfast and left with Hale to school. We arrived in the school parking lot; I got out and went to the office to get my schedule.
The desk lady was talking but I couldn't understand her. She then looked at Hale; he answered her questions while signing to me. Realization crossed her face when she realized that I was deaf. She looked at me as if I was some injured animal on the side of the road. *kinda annoying*
The principal walked in and handed me a note saying he was going to send me texts when the bell was supposed to ring and when he needed to see me. I nodded at him, the note also said to show my teachers this so I wouldn't get my phone taken away. He walked off and I got a text a minute later. (Go to your 1st period of the day). I giggled and left to find room 106.
I was walking down the hallway alone and then bumped into someone. "Sorry!" I immediately said. Then I looked up and saw the guy from the forest. "Hazel" I saw my name fit his lips. *Those luscious looking lips* I thought to myself. He touched my arm and I felt electricity buzz through me though it brought me back to Earth. He was smiling, no smirking, at me. It was an annoying look, so I scowled at him in response. His body moved in a motion that I recognized as laughter. He had friends behind him laughing as well.
I glared at the whole group of them when a tall man came up behind them. I smiled, and the guys looked somewhat distraught. The man tapped a finger on one of the boys' shoulder, and he turned immediately. His grinning face was gone in a second; I couldn't even hide my smile. The man turned to me and began talking.
"Hello there. You must be Miss Fonst, our new student?" He greeted and asked. I nodded and felt a vibration of my phone. I took my phone out and was looking at the message when the man yanked my phone out of my hand. "You will not use your phone in school! And especially not in front of a teacher." He said in what I was presuming to be an authorative tone. I pulled the note the principal gave me out of my pocket and handed it to him. He read it and had a look of guilt on his face. "I am so sorry, I didn't know of your circumstances." The boys looked at me warily. I shrugged and walked looked to my phone again.
(Try to get to class quickly Ms. Fonst.) The principal sent me. I smiled as I thought that the principal reminded me of my Uncle Jacob. I walked off and arrived at my class.
"Everyone, this is our new student, Hazel Fonst." Mr. Grubbs said loudly to the class. He walked me over to my desk and I got through my first three periods. The lunch bell rang (Or so my text said) and a girl, Carrie Stonet, walked up to me.
"Hiya! My name is Carrie Stonet. You're new here, wanna eat lunch together?" She asked. I could understand her barely. I decided to come clean with her, I showed her my hearing aids. She looked at them but seemed unfased. I smiled at her and nodded. We walked together and then I saw Hale sitting with another guy. He was tall, very built, and looking at a girl by me.
The girl walks up to me and Carrie. "Hey Carrie! How are things going?" Her friend asked Carrie with an excited expression. Carrie was talking to her but I couldn't understand. Her friend turned to me and said, "Hi. My name is Marilyn. Nice to meet you." She held out her hand, and I shook it. I turned back to Hale and began walking to him. Carrie and Marilyn were looking at me shocked.
I stood in front of Hale, he was looking at me with a smile on his face. I began signing, 'So, how was your day so far?' He looked at me and shrugged. I giggled silently and sat on his lap. His friend was staring at me as if just did the craziest thing ever. Carrie and Marilyn were just staring at me. Hale's body was moving in a motion I recognized as laughter, so I laughed too.
                                                                         *Carter*
I was chillin with my friends at lunch, when I see Hazel. She's sitting on some guy's lap and laughing with Carrie Stonet, the jocky type of girl, Marilyn Swaise, a big flirt, Terrence Drones, football jock, and some guy I don't even know. I felt something twist inside me, like I was sick. I grimaced at the thought that that might be her boyfriend. *Why do I even care?* I questioned myself.
My brother, Carson, saw me staring, and followed my gaze. His eyes trailed over Hazel, and his mouth twitched up in a small smile. "Hey Carter, got eyes for the new girl?" Carson asked me in a joking manner. I blushed slightly, earning me a raised eyebrow from Carson. "I got it right? You like girls like her?" I blushed again. *No" I told myself. "I don't normally like girls like her.* I sighed, got my courage, and started walking toward her.
                                                                               *Hale*
I was sitting at a table with my friend Terrence, when Nash, my nickname for Hazel, comes walking up to me. She then sighed, 'So, how was your day so far?' she signed to me. I shrugged my shoulders, nothing really happened so far. She giggled and sat on my lap. I saw out the corner of my eyes that Terence was staring wide-eyed at Nash. The two girls with Nash were also just staring at her. I laughed and so did Nash.
All of a sudden, there was this guy standing in front of me and Nash, glaring at me. I tensed up a bit, his eyes boring into me. Nash's eyes followed my gaze when she felt my body tense. She was looking at this guy with recognition and something else. I think it was annoyance. Looking more than slightly annoyed, she talked to him. "Can I help you with something?"
I can't believe she was talking to him. She hates talking, she prefers sign language. He began talking as a bunch of guys came up behind him. "Uh yeah. My name's Carter, we never really introduced ourselves yesterday." He said in a deep voice. *Yesterday?!* I thought angrily.
                                                                              *Carrie*
Wow! Hazel sure has a lot of interesting people around her. She has Carter Kackston(sophomore), the bad-boy of the school. His ink-black, curly hair, tan yet pale skin, and the most amazing blue eyes there is. There’s also Terrence Drones(junior), the football monkey of the school. He has shoulder-length ,bleach-blonde hair. His skin is rocking a summer tan, and he has these amazing chocolate brown eyes. And last, but not least is Hale Fonst(junior), the new guy. He’s all height, way tall. His dark-brown hair with streaks of red when the sun hits, is short short. Believe it or not, he’s pale but pretty built. His eyes are different from Hazel’s eyes, they are blueish, grey, like storm clouds.
                                                                             *Hazel*
I am now panicking! Did Carter really have to tell Hale about before? I feel Hale tense up again. He's staring at me with an intense expression. 'What on Earth did he mean by YESTERDAY!?' Hale signed in a swift motion. I looked down a bit embarassed and ashamed. I was told many times not to go into the forest, that it was dangerous. I always ignored them, and now I had to tell Hale.
'Well you see, I was in the forest drawing and I met him there.' I signed then pointed to Carter. It was only then that I noticed everyone staring. I blushed a bright red when the principal came up to me. He talked slowly so i could understand him. "Is there a problem here Miss Fonst?" I shook my head slowly. I then got a text, and opened my phone.
As the students around me saw I opened my phone in front of the principal their eyes bulged. I looked at the message, (Honey, Please come home. We have to take you to the doctor to get your medication.) It was from my mom. I walked up to the principal and showed him the message. He nodded and I walked up to Hale. 'Mom needs to take me to the doctor. You need to drive me home please.' I signed to him.
                                                                            *Carter*
I watched in astonishment as Hazel took out her phone in front of the merciless principal. She even walked right up to him and put the phone in his face, and did he take it away? NO! He just nods his head as she shows the guys she was sitting on. Then they both walk toward the parking lot and drive away. I felt a twinge of disappointment now that she was gone.
My brother calls me to him and whispers, "Hey, wanna go for a run?" I nod. We then walk slowly toward the forest, once we're in the open we shift. As usual, we feel the strange snap of our bones, the extension of our claws and fangs. I walk slowly toward the small river that I found Hazel at. I don't know why, but I feel a strange pull to her. I want to be near her and make sure she is always safe.
I look into the clear water of the river, and stare at my wolf's reflection. A midnight black coat with a white-tipped tail. And you can't forget the ominous yellowish-gold eyes. When I think of Hazel one thing comes to mind, MINE!
                                                                             *Hazel*
After mom and I picked up my medication, we rode home quickly. Once home I rushed upstairs and grabbed my sketchpad and stuffed it in my backpack. I quickly ran downstairs and signed to mom 'i'm gonna go do my homework outside.' She nodded her okay and I sprinted outside before she could think of why I'd do home outside. I ran fast toward the river so I could finish the sketch from yesterday.
When I arrived at the river I saw an amazing pitch black wolf with a white-tipped tail. It was staring at it's reflection in the water. I felt something crunch beneath my shoe, and looked down to see and twig snapped in half. I felt a stare and looked up to find the wolf staring at me with odd yellow eyes. They were kinda ominous, but they looked friendly. The wolf trotted to where I was, and sniffed my hair. I giggled when his wet nose touched my cheek.
The wolf's tongue lashed out and licked my face. I giggled more as the rough tongue hung out the wolf's mouth, it kinda looks like he's grinning at me. I held my hand out and he sniffed it before rubbing his face against it. His fur had a rough texture at first, but then as I pushed my hand further in the fur and smiled when it got amazingly soft. The wolf's throat gulped, and he pressed himself closer to me. The wolf turned his head and I followed his stare to a grayish blue colored wolf. The gray wolf opened his mouth and then the black wolf opened his. I can only assume that they're communicating.
                                                                             *Carter*
Shortly after Hazel showed up, my brother came and saw Hazel's hand in my fur. Hazel followed my stare to Carson, and looked back and forth between us as we barked (talked), to each other.

Carson: What are you doing?
Carter: Nothing.
Carson: A human's hand is in your fur?!
Carter: So?
Carson: So, if you don't get rid of her, I WILL!

I growled at the threat to her. I then ran back to the house and shifted to my human form. Carson came back shifted as well. "What the hell man?! Why are you even around that human?!" I was about to say something before he began going on and on and on. "I mean seriously! Why are you hanging around her?! You need to stay away from her and keep her out the pack's forest! If the alpha catches wind of this, he'll have her terminated! You need to get her away from here, if you don't, I WILL!"
I growled again, and turned to my brother. "If you touch one hair on her head, you're dead! She's MINE!!!!!!" I growled once more then froze. *Mine? What am I saying?* My brother blinked then just stared at me.
"She's your mate!! Oh my gosh, you found your mate!" Now it's my turn to blink and stare. *I found my mate?* Just then my dad came in, and my brother ran up to him. "Guess what?! Carter found his mate!" My dad blinked then ran up and patted me on the shoulder.
"Good job boy! So who's the lucky girl? What's she like? Do we know her? How'd you meet her?" My dad just kept throwing questions at me. I laughed thinking of when he found out that she's deaf. My dad looked expectantly at me.
"Well, her name is Hazel Fonst. She's a short slim girl. Her skin is a healthy pale, and she has natural fiery, red hair. Like her name, she has Hazel eyes. She just moved here a little bit before school started. She lives by the river on the east side of the forest. And I actually met her at the river by her house." My father nodded satisfied. "And did I forget to mention that she's deaf?" I whispered.
My father did a double take, "She's DEAF?!" He paced around the room. "You need someone who will be an asset to the pack, not a burden!!" He continued pacing the room, muttering to himself. "We're going to see the alpha, right now."
As we pulled up to the alpha's house, I was just wondering how this was going to go. We quickly got out and knocked on the alpha's door. The alpha's son, Daniel, opened the door. "Hey what's up Carson?" Carson and Daniel are best friends. Carson turned to him and replied, "Nothing much. Just here to see Mr. Alpha-man."
Just then, Alpha-Mitchel walked in the room. My father then announced, "My son has found his mate." All eyes turned to Carson. "No, no not Carson. Carter found his mate." The alpha came and patted my dad on the back.
"Then why does your face look so serious, my friend?" The alpha asked my father. He then turned his silver eyes toward me and looked at me closely. I felt somewhat uncomfortable.
"He did find his mate. However there has been a complication. She is a human. And not just a human, a deaf human." My father said with distress in his voice. My alpha didn't look mad or sad, he actually look happy.
"That is fine my friend. Your son has found his mate, this is a joyous occasion. We will welcome this girl into the pack." He turned to me. "Does she know of us?" I shook my head. "Then get her at once! I would love to see what kind of girl has Carter Kackston, the rebellious one of the pack, wrapped around her little finger."
                                                                            *Hazel*
After the wolf left, I sat down and began to work on my sketch from before. A couple hours later, my alarm on my phone went off signaling that dinner is in 10 minutes. I packed up my sketch materials and headed home. I arrived home 5 minutes before I had to prepare the table for dinner. I ran up the stairs and quickly went into my room. I set my bag down and went to the bathroom to wash my face. The rest of the night and the next morning passed in a blur.
Now, it's my second period of the day, and I'm just sitting here bored. All of a sudden, Carter is in front of me. I glance from my book to him then back. I continue to read my short novel when his hand is waving in my face. "Do you want to go out with me today?" I tilted my head up, before nodding okay. "Okay, I'll come get you after school at the front entrance."
The rest of the day went by quickly, and the end of the day came. I went to the front entrance and waited for about one minute before Carter came and got me. He led me to a bunch of guys that surrounded 2 cars. He then introduced me to them and vice versa. The boys were Carson: a tall (junior) with Carter's ink-black hair, though his was straight. His eyes were a stunning Jade color. Mathew: (junior) an average guy with an awesome tan, and bleach blonde hair. He was really muscular and that somewhat frightened me. His eyes were so pale I would have thought that they were white. Daniel: (junior) an extra tall guy with dirty blonde hair, grey eyes, and an authoritative attitude. Jason: (sophomore) a short guy with a dark brown hair, dark brown (almost black) eyes, and a stingy (mean) attitude. Jayden: (sophomore) a guy equally short , Jason's twin brother same looks, but a completely different attitude. Victor: (sophomore) a buff guy with red hair and green eyes. He had an obvious Irish accent, and an adorable smile.
When we were leaving, Jason, Jayden, Victor, and Mathew were all in one car; whilst me, Carter, Carson, and Daniel were in the other car. We sat in the car like this, Daniel driving, Carter shotgun, me and Carson in the back. He turned to me and grabbed a notebook and wrote. He probably thought that because I was deaf, I wouldn't be able to have verbal communication with him. This is how our conversation went.

Carson: Hey!

Hazel: Hola!
Carson: Do you like Carter?
Hazel: a little, but not much yet, Why?
Carson: cuz he likez u!
Hazel: thatz cool, i guezz
Carson: enough about him, let's talk bout u!
Hazel: okaaaaay?
Carson: fav. color? food? type of guy?
Hazel: green, carrotz, NYB!
Carson: nyb?
Hazel: none ya buzinezz!
Carson ohhhhh. what bout ur family? they, ya no, deaf?
Hazel: mom, dad, big bro. and no, i lost my hearing after an accident.
Carson: wat happened?
Hazel: i don wanna talk bout it.
                                                                        *Carter*
I can't believe I'm sitting up front with the alpha's son. Usually Carson would sit here, but he went in the back with Hazel. I wondered why he wanted to sit next to Hazel. I turned toward Daniel, "Do you know why Carson wanted to sit back there?"
"The only reason I can guess is that he wants to talk to her?" I listened closely but I didn't hear any talking, just the sound of pen on paper. That's weird, or maybe he thinks she doesn't talk. I smiled to myself and turned toward the back. After getting Hazel's attention by tapping her arm, I slowly asked her, "Can you tell me your phone number?"
All of a sudden, Carson smacks me on the forehead. I give him a what the hell look and he says, "Dude, the girl's deaf! She can't hear you, why are you talking to her? I have a notepad." He shoved the notepad in my hand. "Here" I looked at Hazel and she had an amused expression on her face.
"I take it you think this is funny?" I asked her while pouting somewhat. She giggled and said, "Of course!" Carson turns toward her sharply. She looks at him with a sneaky expression and stuck her tongue out at him. I chuckled slightly to myself as Carson looks taken aback, and Daniel just sits there with a smirk on his face.
We arrived at my old house and when Hazel looked out the window her jaw dropped. Once the car stopped, we all jumped out and made our way to the front door. Carson quickly unlocks the door and all eight of us pile in. I guide Hazel to the sitting room that has three couches, a giant plasma screen TV and as of now six crazy werewolves. I grab a random horror movie and play it up.
After a hour and a half of the movie, the guys were laughing hysterically at the gorey violence and blood, while Hazel had her face hidden in my chest. She looks up only ever so often, and when she does she squeaks then quickly hides again. I try to hold of the grin, but my mate being in my arms makes that basically impossible. My brother turns to look at me and smirks when he sees Hazel snuggled against my chest, soundly sleeping. Wait, sleeping? When'd that happen? Must have been too drunken off the feeling of having her in my arms to notice that her breathing even out.
All of a sudden I feel a vibration and see that Hazel's phone in her hand is vibrating. I quickly grab it before she can wake up, and flip open the phone not thinking that what's in it isn't my business.
(Jace: What up Baby Gurl?)
I growled loudly and my brother quickly took Hazel away from me so I could run outside. *Who dares to call our Mate baby girl!?* I was raging with jealousy when Hazel came out at just the worst time imaginable, right when I shifted from man to wolf, well teen guy to wolf. She gasped slightly and then just stared at me. She walked forward and pet my fur exactly where she did so earlier. I quickly got my emotions under control before I could really hurt her.
                                                                          *Hazel*
Waking up because of a sudden pull was not on my bucket list and if I had to be honest I was fricking mad! The horror movie was not a good idea because I was terrified of horror films since I was but a baby. And then to top it off, Carter randomly turns into a wolf, and not just any wolf, but my wolf. I gasped slightly, but can you blame me?I walked over to the ginormous wolf and petted him lightly where I had pet him earlier. I was still mad so I flicked his nose, and then he just stared at me shocked, I think?
My phone vibrated and I looked away from wolf-Carter and saw that Jace had sent me a message.

Jace: Wats up bby gurl?
Me: Nothin u?
Jace: Art
Me: Well, get 2 work and paint me a tree!
Jace: Lol, bye bby gurl
Me: L8r

When I looked back up from my phone, Carter was back to being human and dressed in sweats and a muscle shirt. I couldn't help but linger on the way his muscles constricted as he brushed his fingers through his hair. You would to if you could see him and his handsomeness. "Who is Jace?" I read the words from his lips and saw that he had an angry expression on his face. My blood boiled that he would dare to read my messages behind my back, that's just rude. I glared at him and turned away from him to Carson and demanded that he take me home.
He looked unsure but did as I said, and I was on my home with Carson driving, Me shotgun, Carter in the back. Carter tapped my arm, and I turned around in the seat and glared at him. He held his hands up in a surrender position and I sighed and motioned with my hands for him to continue.
"I'm sorry for being a jerk. But I think you already get that I'm a werewolf, but you do need to know that you are my mate. A mate is someone who is supposed to be like a soul-mate. Do you understand?" I nodded my head slowly and he continued. "Well, since you are my mate, I will get extremely jealous when you talk to other guys, especially if they call you baby girl. I'm also sorry that I read your text message without permission. I didn't want to wake you. Do you forgive me?" He put his lip out in a pouty face that had me giggling and nodding my forgiveness. The car suddenly stopped and we were outside my house with my brother sitting on the porch on his laptop. I said a quick thank you and walked straight inside the house.
Heading upstairs, I waved hello to my parents; my mother was in kitchen cooking dinner, and my father was in the living room going over some left-over work. I was in my room fast, and in the bathroom taking a shower faster. I walked out in only a towel to see my brother sitting on my bed. I walked over to my closet and grabbed a pair of silk pajamas and sat on my bed with a raised eye-brow at my brother. He shrugged and began signing. 'So, you're hanging out with those guys?' I nodded a simple yes and he sighed. 'Just be careful' and with that last warning, he was out my door.
Laying back on my bed, I began to think of all that happened in the passed month, and sighed from the small head-ache it gave me. I closed my eyes, and before I knew it, I was out like a light.

                                                                           *Carter*

As soon as I assured myself that she was inside safely, Carson drove home. We walked in the house in complete silence, which freaked my dad out. “Son, what happened?” I shook my head at him just sat down.
“My mate found out what I was.” I said quietly. My dad’s eyes told me to continue. “She stared then she just petted my fur. She didn’t freak or anything.” His eyes widened. I received a pat on the back and slept peacefully during the night.

                                                                          *next day*

I woke up late and ran to school, ignoring the sleepiness in me. I saw Hazel walking into the building and followed her as she met up with her friends, Marilyn and Carrie. They said their hellos and giggled at something one said. I walked up to them and wrapped my arms around Hazel’s small waist, and felt as she turned around to look at me. Once she saw me, she raised an eyebrow. I shrugged my shoulders and just nuzzled my nose into her neck, inhaling her scent.
Carrie and Marilyn were both gaping at me but I ignored them enjoying the feeling of having my mate in my arms. I reluctantly said a quick good-bye to Hazel so I could go back to the guys. Not soon after I left I heard loud whispers and a shriek as Nina Lonsin entered the picture. Nina was standing over Hazel who was sitting on the ground. Marilyn was being held back by Carrie as she was looking ready to claw Nina’s eyes out. Hazel silently stood and was about to walk off before Nina grabbed her shoulder and slammed her into the wall.
Hazel gasped and balled her fists, and I watched from afar seething in place. Hazel lifted her tiny hands and swung a balled fist towards Nina’s face. Nina went down immediately and Hazel threw another punch at her stomach. Hazel’s eyes which were normally a mix of beautiful colors, were now a dark and stormy grey. Her older brother Hale quickly rushed over and grabbed his sister who shrieked loudly causing people to stare. “Sorry!” he said in a loud voice. “She takes medicine for her ears and it causes anger management problems. Don’t piss her off and you got nothing to worry over.” He finished quietly.
I stared as he pulled her away, not believing his excuse for a second. I quietly followed behind them using my wolf-like stealth. Her brother was moving his hands rapidly while talking at the same time. “How could you be so careless as to have lost some control. You need to be more careful. If you don’t stop having tantrums, they’ll put you back on that medication. Is that what you want?” She shook her head slowly after he finished.

Hale is now driving me home, much to my relief, as I had managed not to receive a detention today. The car suddenly jerked, making me realize that we arrived home. We walked inside the house to see our mother sitting on the couch crying while talking to our father. I turned to Hale to ask him what they were saying, but stopped when I saw his expression. His face was contorted with anger, and his fists were tightening. He marched into the living room and began to yell, I’m assuming anyway. His hands were flailing around wildly, and my parents were just bowing their heads in shame. In shame?

My mom turned to see my confused face, and jumped up to grab my arms. She let go of my arms and began to apologize furiously in sign language. She then began to sign again: “ I’m so sorry baby! We meant to tell you earlier, you’re adopted.” I stood there completely gobsmacked. I was adopted. I signed back: “from who?” They only shook their heads.

I couldn’t take it, and decided to run. I quickly ran out the house and into the forest. Running blindly, I managed to make it to my special spot. Already there was Carter’s handsome, black wolf. I ran up to him and hugged him tightly. He pulled away from me and walked behind a bush. A minute or two later he came out human and without a shirt. If I wasn’t so upset, I’d be drooling over him. He sat down next to me and wrapped his arms around me.  I leaned into his embrace, and sighed contently.
