INTRODUCTION
James 1:19-20; ‘’Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.’’
Handling anger is an important life skill. Christian counselors report that 85 percents of people who come in for counseling have problems dealing with anger. Anger can shatter communication and tear apart relationships, and it ruins both the joy and health of many. Sadly, people tend to justify their anger instead of accepting responsibility for it.
Everyone struggles, to varying degrees, with anger. Thankfully, God’s Word contains principles regarding how to handle anger in a godly manner, and how to overcome destructive anger.
Overcoming the spirit of destructive anger is not accomplished overnight. But through prayer, Bible study, and reliance upon God’s Holy Spirit, the spirit of destructive anger can be overcome. We may have allowed anger to become entrenched in our lives by habitual practice, but we can also practice responding correctly until that, too, becomes a habit and God is glorified in our response.
If you want the great and mighty things God has for you in life to manifest, you must get to the root of destructive anger and deal with it. Everybody has to deal with anger from time to time. But what’s the best way to handle it? To answer that question, we must first understand what destructive anger really is.
Destructive anger is an intense emotional response rooted in annoyance, displeasure, indignation, wrath, vengeance, or hostility which is usually irrationally.
Many times, reacting in anger is how we express our dissatisfaction with life. It’s defined in the Greek language as the strongest of all passions. Destructive anger begins with a feeling that’s often expressed in words or actions. We feel something and it causes a reaction.
Ephesians 4:26-27; "Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun goes down upon your wrath: Neither gives place to the devil."
In this scripture, Paul tells us anger must be quickly resolved and not be allowed to continue beyond a day. If I get angry at the beginning of the day I must have it dealt with by the end of that same day. I know that sounds strange and almost legalistic to say it like that, but there is a big reason Paul is telling us to resolve anger quickly. If you do not, it gives the devil an open door into your life.
In the spirit world like attracts like. If we allow anger to continue and not be resolved speedily, demons that reside in hell are attracted to us and will begin to influence and build strongholds in our lives.
Matthew 5:21-22; “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’’
‘’But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.’’
Jesus was saying hellfire, meaning demons that reside in hell (and these are really bad demons), have access to us if we do not resolve our anger and resultant anger-driven behavior. That is pretty serious!
All destructive anger, regardless of its cause, has the same effect on our lives. It upsets us, causing us to feel pressure. Keeping anger locked inside and pretending it doesn't exist can even be dangerous to our health. Most of the time we’re only hurting ourselves, and the person who angered us isn’t even aware of it. So we must take responsibility for our anger and learn to deal with it.
When you face your anger and decide to deal with it God's way, you can overcome it. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to be stable and walk in the fruit of the Spirit. We have the power to forgive those who do injustices in our lives and to love the unlovely.
CHAPTER ONE
STOP THAT HABIT NOW!
James 4:7; ‘’Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.’’
Everyone is responsible for his habits. The devil is not responsible for your habits. Any habit is stoppable and any new one is formable.
A great man of God said ‘’you don’t decide your future, you decide your habits, and your habits decide your future.’’
It is your habit that will create your habitat. It is your habit that will determine your attitudes in life, in other words, where you will get to in life is determines by your habits.
Before your habit stops you from getting to your promised land, stop that habit now! If you don’t stop it, it will stop you!
Habit is the part or aspect of a person that makes on different from anyone else.
Proverbs 12:4, ‘’A wife of a noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful one is like decay in his bones.’’
Your habits determine your acceptability. Poor habits will end up in poor human relation and ultimately poor life.
Faulty habits mean habits that people are not willing to associates or relate with. People with faulty habits will not be good drivers and as such will not be good leaders, wife or husband. They are always full of themselves, egoistic and high esteem. A living habit is a product of living conscience.
Anger is a destructive habit. It is a nasty attitude or habit that most people exhibited and are battling within their various circles of life. The ability to raise up your voice at others without self-control, it is a destructive spirit of anger and resentment.
If destructive anger is part of your weakness, it is better you cry out to God for help and deliverance through prayers before it destroys your life. Anger is a funny spirit of destruction, if you are possessed with the spirit of anger, you will not know the kind of words or utterances you have uttered out during the process, until when your head is cooled.
Some people think is just one of those things to get angry. Hear me; anger can actually lead you to premature death and hell. It can hinder you to get to your Canaan-land and heaven.
Anger is one of the most common and one of the most destructive emotions known to mankind. It ruined the first family that lived on earth and causing the first murder. When Cain flew into a rage and killed his brother Abel. Ever since, it has ruined millions of marriages, friendships, and other relationships.
Genesis 4:1-8; ‘’Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man.”
Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.
Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil.
In the course of time, Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord.
And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering,
But on Cain and his offering, he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast?
If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.’’
Cain murdered his beloved brother Abel because God accepts Abel’s offering and rejected his own offering. The bitterness and hatred that led to destructive anger overshadow him. If you allowed anger to take you, it will quench your love for your fellow human beings.
Colossians 3:8; ‘’But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, flighty communication out of your mouth.’’
Bitterness is stronger than love, the moment you start to hate a man, automatically you will become a slave to that man. Joseph brothers hated him for no reason and they became physical and spiritual slaves to him.
Unresolved anger is one of the chief contributing factors to the destruction of marriages, the breakdown of families, and the weakening of communities. It is a major cause of health problems and lack of productivity in the workplace, and it is a common denominator among juvenile delinquents.
Before the spirit of anger stop you from getting to your next level of glory, stop that anger now! If you don’t stop it, it will stop you!
Psalm 25:20-21, ‘’Guard my life and rescue me, let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. May integrity and uprightness protect me because my hope is in you.’’
David said, my integrity and habits preserve me from shame, it is your turn today!
Today, I command the spirit of anger to die in your life, in Jesus mighty name.
PRAYER POINTS
CHAPTER TWO
WHAT IS DESTRUCTIVE ANGER?
Proverbs 29:11; ‘’Fools give vent in their rage, but the wise bring calm in their end.’’
Destructive anger is a strong feeling of displeasure, the hostility of antagonism towards someone or something, usually combined with an urge to harm. It is a strong emotional reaction of displeasure, often leading to plans for revenge or punishment.
Ephesians 4:26-27; ‘’Be ye angry, and sin not; let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.’’
The spirit of anger of anger has been destroying and tearing homes, family, and friends apart like a wounded lion. This act is very common to see in most people whenever they are engaging in talks with each other.
Anger is an act done out of provocation. God uses the story of Moses’ anger to teach us
