I KNOW I’M A PEST

It didn’t take long,
I thought as much.
The passion has died,
No more gentle touch.

It seems I annoy her,
She puts up with me at best.
But her eyes say it all,
So, I know I’m a pest.

I get in the way,
I feel like a bug.
Not so long ago,
I’d get a big hug.

Bedtime is cold,
Kisses are rare.
I want to get close,
I touch her hair.

I get big sighs,
She rolls, turns away.
I know I’m a pest,
No more to say.

She says, “it’s a phase”
She thinks I’m stupid.
There is no romance,
No sign of cupid.

Oh how I try,
I’m still the same man.
I love her so much,
I do what I can.

This makes me feel ugly,
It makes me feel bad.
I try to tell her
It’s making me sad.

I know in my heart
The feeling has gone.
I wish I knew
What I had done.

It’s time to leave,
I know what’s best.
Life is not easy
When you know you’re a pest.
