It doesn't matter if you decide on a publishing house or self-publishing, keeping an eye on proper marketing is of utmost importance as publishing houses don’t do a lot of promotional activities for their authors. If people don't know about your book, how can they read it? Therefore, authors have to take the initiative, too.
Marketing should not only take place when you finish your book. If you constantly work on promoting yourself, readers will pay way more attention to your book when you release it. For example, the writing process itself might be the best marketing strategy; people being able to witness the creative process establish an emotional commitment/relationship with a product – in this case your book.
Everyday marketing, by means of BookRix, shouldn’t be like a chore, but rather just be a lot of fun. It is about sharing what you really care about: writing. Have conversations and discussions with others. In doing so, marketing is certainly not spamming, but productive communication. After a while, you won't even realize you're marketing at all!
