chapter one

Sharlot looks at me, hard. Her bruises show out, and they look bad.

Her bruised face is swelling, and there are some bad scars on her body.

“Save us,” She says. “Save us now.” I look at her scornfully.

“How do you expect me to save us?” I say. “I already told you-”

“You can,” Sharlot says. “I know you can.” Ok before you go all “What's happening?” or “This is lame.” Let me show you how it all happened, it started four weeks ago.

Four weeks ago…….

“CHANCE! IT’S TIME FOR SCHOOL!” My Mom yelled in front of my bedroom door. I looked up with sleepy eyes, only to see my Mom standing there. Hands-on hips. She looked mad, but I was used to it. “DID YOU HEAR ME?!” She yelled again, and I'm not exaggerating when I say, in my face.

“Yeah,” I said. “Unfortunately.”

“THEN GET UP[ Mom yelled again. (she was always yelling, so get used to it.) I got up to do my usual:

  1. Get yelled at awake by Mom. (twice.)
  2. Get dressed.
  3. Brush teeth.
  4. Go eat breakfast.
  5. Get yelled at while eating. (three times.)

When I finished breakfast, my Mom gave me another one of her big bombshells.

“There's a new kid today, Chance. so be good.” I wasn’t listening. Which was a mistake. Of course, I didn't know then, that not listening to my Mom that one time, would lead to my almost demise, but you're going to have to keep reading to find out how.

chapter two

I was in the middle of closing the front door when I hear this right behind me:

“HEY CHANCE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”

Don’t worry, that's just my friend, Georgia. She is just like my Mom. she’s also a big geek, Like me. Well, kind of like me. Except I don’t scream like a mountain goat getting stretched. She’s almost as tall as I am, but she’s louder. She also wears glasses and has a ponytail.

“I’m going to school,”
