THE LAST POEM

1. A strange birthday gift for Ms. Sarah Melanie

As the doorbell rang, Ms. Sarah Melanie went to the door and opened it. A man carrying a small box was standing there.

 

“Good morning”, she greeted the man.

 

“Good morning, madam. I am from the “Eagle Express Company" – the man said. “And I guess you are Ms. Sarah Melanie. This parcel came from Ms. Rose Melanie and is addressed to Ms. Sarah Melanie, at 37th Silence Street.

 

“Oh, Rose. She is my sister. I suppose it’s the flower seeds that I asked her. Thank you very much.”

 

The man left. Ms. Sarah closed the door and returned to her living-room. She then opened the box expecting to find the flower seeds that she had asked her sister to send her. However, with great surprise she saw that inside the box there were no flower seeds but a small digital voice recorder. On the recorder there was a note on which the following could be read:

 

Dear Sarah:

“Congratulations on your birthday. We (David, the kids and I), are sending you a small gift: a poem (we know how you are crazy about poetry) and a digital voice recorder. After reading the poem, you can listen to an audio version of it on the recorder accompanied with music. It’s very beautiful. You can also
