ACT ONE. SCENE ONE.
An open space. Enter Love and Peace.
LOVE.
Peace, it is like ages to me
Like the pages of great books
Your days of being away.
I have missed the calmness of you
The flash of smile, and your beauty, too;
Your eyes of dove
That make stars of love
Burn fiery in my heart.
PEACE.
I have missed you too
Or was ekuro destined to leave ewa?
Or the snail, its shell?
It is the immaturity of violence
That breaks the union of me and you;
It is his folly that fouls our love
Eledua never meant it to be so.
We were destined for faraway forever
And for separation, never.
Or do you forget that my fish
Without the waters of you
Is not to be but be gone?
LOVE.
How can I not know?
Does your love not burn life-fire
In the heart of my hearts?
Without the calm of your breath
Can I at all survive?
Can death my sin, forgive?
Peace, when you fall in pieces
I fall apart, too
For says He, ‘’One flesh shall they be
These two’’.
PEACE.
But do you not only speak words
That you will later call
The story for the gods?
And like words which from the cock’s mouth fall
