Chapter One

Noelle

Nicole and Noelle Redwood were twins, sort of. They had the same white blonde hair and the same wide blue eyes. Their skin was the same almost transparent white and they pursed their pale pink lips the same way when they were annoyed. There the similarities ended.

Nicole was athletic and turned a warm brown color after exposure to the summer sun. She was effortlessly popular and easily friendly. Noelle was always pale and shy. Starting a new school for Nicole was easy. She already had friends with common names like Jessica and Tony. Noelle had been here for a week and still had no friends.

Noelle slammed her locker shut, math book and orange choir folder cradled in her arms. It was last period choir and she had math homework to take home. She turned around and slammed into someone, her book, folder, and calculator flying to the floor at high speed. She flushed bright pink and looked into navy blue eyes. She felt unease rush through her as she whispered "Sorry" and hurriedly collected her things. She turned to leave and a hand clamped down on her shoulder. Noelle jumped and almost dropped her books again.

"Sorry about that," an oily smooth voice said. "I didn't catch your name." Noelle felt a shiver of dislike in her stomach but she didn't see any way around giving him her name.

"Noelle," she said shortly, trying to brush past him.

"I'm Ethan," he said, stopping her again.

"I'm going to be late," Noelle hinted and he stepped out of the way. The sick feeling in her stomach faded as she moved farther away from him.

Nicole

That looked a tad awkward Nicole thought to herself watching her twin sister Noelle walk away from a guy she hadn't seen yet. Noelle was so shy and quiet in school. Nicole could feel that her twin was embarrassed and upset about what had just happened. She and Nicole had the same clumsiness problem. Nicole had just found ways to deal with and accept hers. Nicole searched for the guy Noelle had bumped in she felt a wave of sympathy. That guy had given her the creeps. "Nic?" a voice said. "Nicole! Did you hear what I said?"

"Huh?" I asked, looking at my friend Jessica.

"I said Brent was looking for you," Jessi said in an exasperated tone. "Also I asked if you just saw that exchange between your sister and the creepy new guy."

"Yeah I saw it. Noelle was upset about it."

"How would you know that?" Jessi asked. "It looked to me that she was just embarrassed. Oh wait, you aren't doing that old twin thing were you?" Nicole just looked at her funny. How could she explain that she could always tell what her twin was feeling and could read what the other was thinking? Jessi would think she was nuts.

"Let's just head to class," Nicole said. She couldn't wait to get to her favorite class of the day; Fashion and Textiles or sewing class to be more exact.

"What about your sister?"

"I'll talk to her after practice," Nicole answered. "She wouldn't like it if I brought it up here." Mentally she was contacting her twin and asking if Noelle wanted her to skip practice and go home to talk.

"I noticed you didn't say anything about Brent," Jessi said with a wicked smile Nicole didn't understand.

"What's there to say?" Nicole retorted. "He probably just wants to give back the notes I let him borrow. I really don't understand what you, Tiff, Tarea, and Tania are making a big deal about." Brent was the tallest, cutest, sportiest, smartest, and nicest boy in school. Nicole really didn't see what the big deal was. Finally the pair arrived at the sewing lab. Nicole went right to her machine. She was making her twin a birthday present with a design she was hoping Noelle would adore. Jessica stopped talking to Nicole, mainly because she tuned out everything when she got a hold of fabric, scissors, a sewing machine, or needle. It got to the point that she didn't even hear the bell ring. She had lost count of how many times she had been late to practice because of that. Coach had finally just ordered her to get to practice at some point.

Nicole looked at what she had finished so far and smiled, hoping that she'd made something Noelle would wear and love. Normally she wouldn't worry but for her twin the design had to be perfect. She was also in the middle of painting a picture that was one of their favorites. It showed the two of them sitting under a big weeping willow tree. Noelle is wearing a cute blue sundress with a few white daisies on it. Nicole is wearing a green form fitting T with a pair of blue jeans that had scribbles all over them. They were sitting holding hands and smiling. Nicole loved the picture because it showed that Noelle was beautiful and how confidant she could be. Nicole thought Noelle would like it. Now all she had to do was get it finished in time for their birthday in two weeks.
