Glixa

 

Just a few years ago everyone thought Krole would dominate the driverless cars market as they had invested so much in research, but it was AVINEL that came up with the idea (and the financial backing) to implement the vast network of self-learning computer systems to manage all of their autonomous vehicles on the roads. The small team at AVINEL created an application called Glixa to allow people to communicate with the network and to operate their Autos. In the last year AVINEL had been so successful not many people wanted a Krole Auto anymore. Glixa Autos were the way to travel.

 

Jim was in a hurry as he often was. He only had 20 minutes to get across the other side of the city for his appointment. The Auto was going 200 km/h on the motorway but he knew he still had to get through the downtown streets to get to his destination.

At least we now have 3 lanes for the Autos, he thought. Autonomous, driverless vehicles, or Autos, had been around for a few years and the old human driven cars had now been restricted to just one lane on the motorways. Some people just wouldn't change, even though it now took around twice the time to travel within the city with a car. And to make it worse for them there were several areas that were now ‘Auto only’.

“Glixa, what time will I get there?” he asked.

“About two thirty. You should be just on time.” The upper-class English female
