Prologue
Last Night
I did not like being behind bars. There’s just something about the cold steel walls. It’s really a big cage for animals. Blood thirsty, savage, and demented animals that have a reason to be locked up. But me? Not one bit. Oh well. Guess it can’t be helped. Rob’s plan took a turn into a tree and must’ve hit every branch down. Now I’m here on my own. I was in a single cell. I guess it’s better than being with a bunch of amateurs. Outside my cell was a desk and a chair, a large cabinet, and some rewards and pictures on the walls. Then the window caught my eye.
I glanced at my guard. He wore a tight blue and silver police uniform. He was way over curvy and his double chin hid most of his neck. He had a couple gray hair on the top of his head, he was mostly bald though. There were pit stains in his blue cotton shirt too. How atrocious and vial he looked. It was my lucky night though, with only one bulky guard on duty it shouldn’t be hard to get the pig to let me out, right?
“So, princess,” the guard growled, “What’d you do to get yourself in here?” He was looking at me now, through the rusty metal bars. I walked to the bars and looked at him through it and made a mental note.
Cell keys were hooked onto his left belt loop. Gun was placed in the carrier on the right.
“Well,” I sighed out, “I was at a party. Which explains the clothing-” which was very prominent. “-I guess the music got too loud and their were complaints.”
“They wouldn’t through you into a cell for that, missy. Quit pullin’ my leg.” His lip curled and his eyebrows started to conceal his eyes.
I decided to change the subject. “Why are you the only cop in here?”
“They took each person that was doing somethin’ wrong at that party individually and put ‘em into single cells. They all have a guard like you do.”
“Huh…” I bit my lip and looked up, casually catching him glance at my chest. I was wearing a black, leather corset that tied up in the back with only leather underwear and knee high black laced boots. My black hair was in a tight bow, half way up and fell upon my lower back and my bangs lay straight along my forehead. “Maybe It was because of my outfit…” I said in a seductive tone. I took my hands and felt up and down my outfit. My guard watched my every move. And I watched his.
“I’m dressed like this because I was planning on getting knocked up tonight…” I grabbed the bars and looked intensely into the guard’s boring grey eyes. “Come on…” I said reaching a hand out and running it along his pelvic area, which was gross beyond belief. But I was sure this plan was going to work.
“I wont bite… Hard.” I said enticingly and added a little moan at the end to meet my plea to perfection. With a brief growl, he unhooked the cell keys off his belt loop and unlocked the cell. I slowly pushed the cell door open and cat walked over to him, looking down on me lust and desire craved in his eyes. I licked my lips and let my hands travel up and down his round body impulsively. I pushed myself against him and slowly slipped his gun into my back pocket; luckily, he didn’t notice.
I let them travel some more and came across metal handcuffs. They were warm from his body heat. Forcefully I pulled them out of his pocket then cuffed his hands behind his back. I blew on his neck and goose bumps rose.
He was nervous.
I took the gun from my pocket and pressed it into his back. He tensed up.
“H-Hey. What are you doing?”
“Sorry, sugar. Tonight’s not your lucky night.” I impelled him into the cell with a click of the door he was instantly trapped.
“You wont get away with this!” He yelled. I laughed and pulled the chair that matched the desk to the window and easily climbed out without another trace.
Chapter One
“What the hell happened?” I yelled at Rob. By now, I was at my home with my dumb ass of a brother.
“Jenny, hush. I said I was sorry.” His big blue eyes looked sorry. I rolled my own at him. Locks of shaggy brown hair fell onto his face. It was hard to be mad at him when he looked at me like that. There was something about him that could make you forget you were ever upset. Not this time, though. I was furious.
“Sorry
? I deserve more than just sorry.” I paced back and fourth in front of him. “You ditched me! Me
! Your own sister, Rob!”
“I didn’t ditch you. I was fighting off other vampires in order to protect you. You
. My own sister.” He put two hands on my shoulders. “What happened that you’re so mad?”
“I had to touch a fat forty-year-old man in order to get the hell out of jail
!” I yelled, throwing his arms off me.
“Jenny, I’m sorry. But it’s too early for this; you need to get to school before father kills me for making you late. Again.”
“Oh fine.” I marched up the stairs, too tired to be yelling anyway. I was pushing myself. It’s what I always did. I have no time to back down. No time for fear. No time to let my guard down. Because something…
Something…
Was always out there. Looking for the humans who know. Know of their existence. The vampires… Their Kingdom; It’s dangerous and more blood thirsty than ever these days; knowing that hunters are around the corner with vampire-killing weapons handy, they drink less. Less and less until they completely loose it, and end up getting themselves killed.
I showered and got dressed for school. Rob dropped me off like any other ordinary morning. My life was never normal except on school mornings. And I enjoyed it as much as I could.
“Morning, Jenny.” Hope greeted me as I closed my locker. I wasn’t a fan of school, but it’s better than hunting. This is my safe place. Or so I though it was.
“Morning, Hope. How are you this fine morning?” I asked her. She laughed a little and playfully hit my shoulder.
“Oh, don’t be so formal, Jenny.” I giggled. We made our way to homeroom, side by side. Hope was my best friend. We’ve been friends since second grade when I saved her from humiliation of Julie. I remember pushing her on the playground. She’d hit her head on one of the slides and hated me ever since. I know she deserved it, otherwise I wouldn’t have done it.
“I heard we’re getting a new student.” Hope whispered to me, looking somewhere else. I followed her eyes. What she heard was right because a boy I’ve never seen before stood in the hallway. He had dark brown hair and navy blue eyes. He had a nicely carved body under his T-shirt with ripped blue jeans. His skin was paler than any vampire I’ve seen. He was really good looking…
And staring right at me…
I took in his navy blue eyes, then lost interest and turned away. Leave him to Julie, she gets every and any boy she wants. But the relationship doesn’t last more than a week. Sex for her is only a ten minute trip in the backseat of a car.
“What are you thinking?” Hope ask me, a blonde eye brow raised.
“How Julie’s going to screw him like a board.” I frowned in his direction and suddenly pitied him. Poor fellow, doesn’t know what he’s in for.
In homeroom, Hope told me about what she heard about the party. She didn’t know I was a vampire hunter, but she did know I was at that party. It was a meeting for vampire hunters, but it’s only known as a ‘party’ for those who aren’t allowed to enter.
“So, some people went to jail?” She asked me.
“Yeah. Most of us got away. Like lucky me.” I smiled.
“Really? Good. You don’t need a criminal record at the age of sixteen.” Yeah. Imagine that, me not having a criminal record. How hilarious. Suddenly I hated my life completely. “So what do you think about the new kid?” she asked me. Ugh, just his face annoyed me. Now I have to tell her what I think of his whole body?
“I think he’ll be pretty popular with the girls,” I said closing my eyes. “Julie in particular.” I crossed my arms and my ankles.
“So you think he’s hot.” Hope said rather bluntly. She was trying to make me admit something. That horrible girl!
I snorted, “Maybe on the outside, but boys like that act like they’re on their monthly twenty-four seven.” I opened one eye at her. She was laughing. “You’re laughing?” Was my opinion really that funny?
“You said it so seriously!” She bellowed out. “Oh,” she added, “and he’s right behind you looking at you like you have eight heads.” My eyes widened and slowly turned my head. Yes, there he was. He stared at me like I was an alien.
“Oh. I guess that’s a little funny.” I giggled and turned around, ignoring the new kid. Probably thinks I’m a prep for that. Oh well.
“Should I take offence from that?” He asked, sitting next to Hope.
“Who knows.” Hope said, blushing a little. She also thought he wasn’t that bad looking. Well, if Hope likes him, I wont get in her way.
I smiled to myself. I’m such a great friend. I wonder if I can play matchmaker. Oh my god, I’d be great at that.
“Uh, Jenny?” I turned to Hope.
“Yes?”
“Is there something on my face?” I rose an eye brow. Am I not supposed to think anything perverted about that question?
“Yes. A mouth, a nose, and two eyes. Why?” I asked. Not to mention a rather pretty mouth, nose, and pair of eyes. She kind of looked like model material. Not in that cliché kind of way. But with her facial features she could really pull off the baby doll look.
“You’re… staring rather intensely at it.” The new kid was chuckling at me. I frowned. He better shut up and this better be the only time he acknowledges me.
“I was thinking about something.” I smiled. The bell rang and I got up from my seat.
“Were you thinking about how popular I’ll be with the girls?” I heard, choking. I glared at him.
“No, actually. I was thinking and laughing at the thought of you being popular with my foot and how bad it’ll hurt when it’s up your ass.” I pulled a ‘That’s So 70’s Show’ moment there, huh?
Hope gave me a weird look as I walked past them, swinging my bag over my shoulder. I sat in my assigned seat in Language Arts and took out my stuff. I sat in a double seated desk alone. I loved it. More room for me to put my crap all over the place. And I didn’t like any of the people in my classes. Hope was only in my lunch, but she has other friends. I really don’t have time for friends, but I like her. She actually makes me laugh.
Someone put their books down on the other side of the desk and pulled out the chair. I looked up to the new kid and my eyes popped out of my head.
“What are you doing?” I hissed.
“Sitting in my new seat?” He slid me his schedule. I swallowed hard, we have all the same classes. Why? God, why must you hate me?
He grinned evilly, “What’s wrong, chicky?”
“Not- Wait. Did you just call me chicky?”
“Maybe.” He looked to the front of the room. I gapped at him.
“Chicky
?” I asked once more, just incase I didn’t hear it correctly.
“Keep it down. I’m trying to stay in this school.” I rose an eyebrow.
“What happened at your last school?” I asked.
“What? You wanna know? About me?” He’s making fun of me. I’m better off ignoring him.
“Not at all,” I brushed him off. I closed my eyes and crossed my arms. “Just learn to shower because, boy, you reek.” I smiled at my tease.
“Shower?” I sighed. This poor boy. Probably hasn’t showered a day in his life. I turned to him.
“Yes. Shower. Sh-ow-er.” I sounded it out for him. He, once again, looked at me like I had four arms. “You know… Soap, shampoo, water-”
“Naked. I know what a shower is.”
The late bell rang. Class has now started. I turned to face the front of the classroom, steam coming out of my ears. I hate this guy. I don’t even know the kid’s name and I hate him.
“Alright, class- Oh. Look’s like we have a new student.” Mrs. Kessler said. She scanned the room until she reached his eyes. “Aha. Liam Christopher Hayes.” Liam nodded.
“Welcome to Chesterland High School. Interested in any sports?”
“Depends. What’s the team name?”
“Chesterland Wolverines.” Liam winced.
“I’ll pass.” Everyone was staring at him. Including Julie Picket. She looked his body up and down, claiming him. He looked to me and fallowed my eyes to Julie, who smiled. Liam just looked back to me and smirked. I blinked. What… Was… That? He wasn’t hypnotized under her spell? Is this guy even human?
“Why are you starring at me like that, Chicky?” he whispered.
“Huh? I wasn’t.” I looked away.
“Yes you were. In love with me already?” I coughed. This guy is really full of himself.
“Yeah. Over my dead body.” I spat out.
He brought his mouth to my ear and whispered, “That can be arranged, Chicky.” He playfully nipped my ear and pulled away. My eyes widened, then I glared at him. Pale skin. Cold lips. He was beautiful and not one glitch in his movements. Vampire.
“I know what you are.” I whispered. “Why are you here?”
“You.” My breath was caught in my throat.
“Ok, class. No more chit chat. Turn your books to page forty-four.” Mrs. Kessler interrupted. Liam obeyed and took our his LAL book he probably received from the office.
Me
? What does he mean me
? I gulped and did what Mrs. Kessler told us to do. I ignored Liam for the rest of the day and it seems he did the same.
Lunch
What did he mean…? Ugh. My lunch is now ruined. Oh whatever. I’m not scared. Not of him. Never of them. I hate his kind. I know what I have to do.
Kill him…
“Hey,” I heard that evil voice say, “can I sit with you girls?” Liam asked me and Hope.
“No way.” I said, while Hope said, “Sure!” and patted a seat in the middle of us. He gladly took it. I rolled my eyes and frowned, roughly eating a chicken nugget.
“So where are you moving from?” Hope asked him.
“Hell.” I muttered, taking another bite.
“Seemed like Hell. Thank you, Chicky
.” Now he’s just trying to piss me off.
“Anyway, I got expelled from my other school. So here I am.” He said, not seeming so thrilled.
“You know,” I said, putting my hand over his, making him shiver and look into my eyes, “No one wants you here. I’d just find a different school.” I pulled my hand away and continued to eat.
“Jenny
!” Hope scolded me, looking a little confused.
“And no one, as in, you, Chicky?” Liam smirked.
“Glad you understood.” Hope stood up with her tray.
“That’s it!” She yelled. “I don’t know what’s going on between you two, but I don’t like it. I’m leaving!” She walked to a different table. Great. Now I’m alone with this jerk face.
“Aw, Chicky. You made her leave.”
“Me? Yeah. Ok.” I growled and went to get up, but Liam grabbed me. I looked at him, eyes challenging.
“Where are you going?” He asked, suddenly serious.
“To get away from you.” I hissed, spitefully. He winced and let me go. I made my way out of the lunch room.
Chapter Two
I went to the court yard and sat at an empty table. It was a beautiful day. The warm sun kissed my pale skin as the wind blew my straight black hair off my face. I scrunched my face and fixed my bangs.
Now it was time to think about what I’m going to do about Liam. Obviously he’s a vampire. I am a slayer. I can do the math, but I’m also curious. He said he was here because of me. What could a vampire possibly want with a slayer that doesn’t involved blood and weapons?
