OUR FAMILY

 OUR FAMILY

Our family, we love them. They are of us, and we are of them. We are the same, and yet, the obvious differences show. We are together, equal and alike; and yet, we are separate and opposite. Our family is good-natured, lovable, loyal, and they willingly share with us. Yet they are selfish, formidable, forceful, and they can quickly become the enemy within. They support us and sustain us, yet they tear into our flesh and break our hearts. They are our best friends, and yet, they can be our worst enemies.

The family is the winds beneath our wings. They bear us up so that we can soar and touch the sky. They’re as important to us as the cables are on a suspension bridge. Our family is our best cheerleaders, and they cheer us on to glory. But they are our worst critics, and their words are caustic. They tear us down, destroy us, and trample on us. The family is our strong tower, and our foundation; and yet they pull us down in the mire and step on us.

We are as drawn to the family as a moth is to a flame. Yet we repel them like they are toxic. Our family gives us peace and joy. And they reach up and pull down the moon and stars for us. And yet they hurt so and cause such pain. Our family can be so agreeable and polite to us, and then without warning, they turn on us and are mean-spirited and offensive. They encourage us to dream big and reach up for the stars, yet they hold us back and stifle us. Think how far you could have gone without them holding us back. But where would you be without the family? The family is the strongest glue that binds, and they hold us together when we’re falling apart.

Dedicated to family and friends all around the world. Some of whom left us far too soon. A special dedication to one of my best friends who left us far too soon, Donna H. You was the best at laughing out loud and brightening up a room with your smile. Gone, but still here in our hearts.
