This was an excellent short-short story. In fact, I finished reading it during my commute home on the subway.

The best way to describe this story is: It is a story about faith.

It involves two different men from two different cultures. One White and one Native American/Cree. Both were placed in an extremely dangerous situation and both depended on their faith to bring them out safely.

This wonderfully short story answered the question: "Who do you call on and cling to in the time of trouble?" I expected more, but "Nerja" was so skillfully written additional words would've ruined it.

Short and to the point, this was an excellent and highly recommended read.

I only got a few issues, being in the UK. But I loved the stories not only fiction but real ones.

I used to write westerns a while back. I shall have to try again.

I just signed up in hopes of finding an active Western writers' group. Is there much activitiy in this group?

As my grandad used to say, "It's dead as a door nail in here."

I am wondering now that I have about two-thirds of my next book written, if I should start editing it and posting it a bit at a time. I'm not sure if that will get me more reads or not. What's your thoughts? :-?

Just for kicks I entered the 100 Word Contest in the I Love Bookrix Writing Contests group. It was more difficult than I thought to get your thoughts across in just a hundred little words.

If you want to check it out, click on the Community tab at the top of the page and then on the I Love Bookrix Writing Contests tab. The entries are in Lineh Derderian's post "100 Word Story User Contest" Mine is #91 entitled The Homecoming and is on page 10.

I know it takes a little time to do all this but when you have a few minutes, I'd appreciate your opinion of the little bitty story. Also Roxxstar, that's in our Western Group has an entry so check it out too. =;-)

Got a chance to view an advance copy of the new movie 'Cowboys and Aliens' directed by Jon Favreau last night. I won't spoil the movie for those of you planning to see it but I have a question. Is the modern western genre dead? While the flick was entertaining as an action piece (and yes as a man...we gotta have action), it lacked, I don't know, "western appeal".

Maybe the writers didn't mean for it to be a western. But if so, why base it in a setting like they did. I guess preconceived notions or expecting an apple just to get a turnip was my problem.

I know it's all about the money in Hollyweird, so they follow the focus groups on subject matter. I only wish on occasion, someone would make a piece that "takes me back there". Those of you that get in the western groove sometime, (and you know who you are) when a story clicks and the right words pour onto the paper, know what I mean.

They've proven they can do remakes, I'm talking about something on the big screen that is new, fresh and has grit.

Maybe I hope for too much...maybe there's not enough demand...your thoughts?

Y'all need to share with our group what you're current project(s) are so we can help support them. If you don't have anything in the works, give us some ideas or thoughts on westerns here on Bookrix in general...in other words, share some thoughts to help us band together. If we don't, the vampires are gonna take us over. :-X

My latest work in progress is the second in the "Luke Wallace" series. This story picks up a few months after the end of "Showdown at Laramie Flatts". More trouble is coming for our hero, in the form of an old nemesis from his past. And this time, everyone is going to get bloody.

I also have outlined the last in that trilogy which will take us all the way back to Luke's childhood and bring him full-circle, showing everyone how he became the man he is today.

And for you sci-fi fans, I've got a relatively shorter story brewing about a new character(western genre, still) that has some redemption issues as he faces the gallows.

So now I've give you a peek into some stories I'm making up. Y'all need to get on the stick and catch us all up on your latest.

Okay, time to pick this group up, and dust it off.
The Western Showcase is a place to show off a snippet off your best work, or for those of you who dont write, a scene from one of your favorite books, by catagory. I thought this week we'd start with SCENERY.
