I like Zaphod Beeblebrox from the 80's series. I could really see him look like that in the books and I like the way Douglas Adams portrays his personality. Quite an enjoyable character. I also like Ford Prefect when he explains everything to Arthur.
One of my favourite scenes is the one where Arthur asks the name of the old Magrathean and he responded that its not important. Later Arthur asks again and answers "Slartibartfast" and Arthur laughs and Salartibartfast says "I told you that its not important."
I liked the scene where they go into hyper-drive and all the body parts dissipate. The other good bit was when they are at the restaurant at the end of the world, and it kept tilting back and forward.
I can't remember the exact quotes at the beginning of the first book but I liked the part where it said that not everyone's happy, not even the people who wear digital watches.

I've also read the Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency series (incredibly hilarious, too). Have you read "The Long, Dark Teatime Of The Soul" yet? I was screaming with laughter on the first page. Unfortunately, I was also on line at the supermarket (they had the book in a rack near the checkout) and kept expecting the guys with the white jackets and butterfly nets to show up and cart me off. I read all the ones Douglas wrote himself including the Dirk Gently's. I agree with Judy, DG is both hilarious and intriguing as he wanders.
