Mr. Brooks: too often you have gushed on endlessly about the good ol' days
when Republicans -- to use your own words -- stood for ""character before
policy"". To which I have a three word reply -- the Southern Strategy; words
which you have consistently been unwilling or unable to address in your
defense of traditional ""conservatism"".

Let me put another interpretation forward for your perusal. I believe that
there is nothing new or unusual about Trump's GOP -- he simply carries that
party's electoral strategies based on xenophobia, misogyny and divisiveness
over the last 60 years to their' logical conclusions.
Perhaps I am wrong. But until you and other ""respectable"" conservatives
address the Southern strategy in its' various incarnations, then I'm inclined
to believe that however despicable the current administrations actions and
words, they remain entirely consistent with the GOPs core philosophies.
