Hi, SpotCheckBilly, you might want to check President Obama’s resume on
Wikipedia. Before being elected President, he had substantial knowledge and
experience in government. He had been elected to three terms in the Illinois
state Senate, serving there for almost 8 years. Then he was elected U.S.
Senator from Illinois and served almost 4 years. Previously he had been a star
student at Harvard Law School and had worked as a civil rights attorney. He
taught Constitutional law at the University of Chicago for 12 years. Barack
Obama knew a lot about how our democratic government works. And yes, I think
being a community organizer in high-poverty neighborhoods gave him valuable
experience understanding the lives of people living in poverty in that
community.
But Obama’s critics love to try to denigrate him by misrepresenting the
substantial background he brought to the presidency.
