I think the answer here is easy -- both! The real litmus tests are these: 1)
Does the candidate match the color (red/blue) of this district? 2) Does the
candidate base his/her ideas on fact and reality? I am a Bernie Sanders
supporter who nevertheless believes that in these fractured times you must be
able to speak to both sides -- and stand up not for *beliefs*, but for
evidence-based approaches. If you know your constituents, you can speak their
language. And if you know the facts, you can use them in persuading thinking
people to join you -- even if they disagree with some of your positions.
