It's not so easy to write about something like this. You have to get inside the character of an older woman. I admire your profound thoughts and ideas. Just be careful with the elipsis.

I found this story both compelling and disturbing. It made me shudder in parts but the critic in me was wishing you had used the 'show not tell' rule.
i believe you could be a wonderful writer if went back to the beginning of this story and put the flesh on it. it deserves more than a short story status. Loved your 'caged heart' phrase by the way.
The only flaw in the story-line is the sister-in-law confessing her part in the death of the husband because at the time, surely there would have been two deaths, brothers from the same family.
Someone told me once there are no coincidences in writing. You have to make an event believable without saying it was a coincidence unless you were using dialogue to explain from a character's POV.
Overall, a wonderful story. One which should definitely see the light of day as a novel.

A well written book! Nice portrayal of widow problems in India. All that I can really suggest you is few lines edit. This story would be more gripping if you would work more on developing characters.

I really appreciate your effort to choose so difficult theme to write and its amazing to write with so clarity at young age.
