my first stab at a fantasy sci fi - had to be less than 2,000 but more than 500 - came in about 1,000 - didn't win anything but I enjoyed writing it and researching the different meanings of names and wedding rings, etc. One of the interesting things, to me, was in different cultures the wedding band is either on the right or the left hand - and in one explanation - one signifies life or practical involvement and the other the emotional involvement.

I always end up learning something new which is nice for an 'old dog.'
