This poem makes me think of couples who pass away within a short time span of one another. Like Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. The emotions are poignant and varied. Maybe a sense of betrayal and regret in the narrator. I wasn't sure if the loved one had passed or if the relationship had simply dissolved. Perhaps the protagonist committed a crime of passion. You bring compelling ideas to the surface with your poetic skill. Great writing!

Patrick,
Your cover speaks out loud. This masterpiece of poetry is touching. It hits to the core. The sadness, hurt, and pain of longing and loss. "A thousand spears that struck my bleeding heart, disguised as love". "The madness of waking again, without you". You have done it yet again my friend beautiful, but sad.
Exceptional writing!

Luci(a), Laz, Angely, and Tanya,
In my writing, the final death of hope is a recurring theme. Marvin dies, Jimmy dies, Valeriya dies, Jaafar (Jaafar of Arabia) dies...I can only say that I think it can add impact.
Thank you all again. I'm honored by your comments.

I'm a proponent of keeping hope alive. However, your comment on a recurring theme of the death of hope reminds me of Edgar Allan Poe. His recurring theme was often about death and loss.
A very emotional powerful piece. I rarely read poems, but was glad to read this.

"The madness of waking up again, without you"
The repetition of that line made that poem so much more powerful, especially when you had it in the beginning and then ended the poem with it. The emotion behind the imagery and behind every line was very amazing. Though I am a huge fan of your stories, I am ecstatic that you decided to write this poem.

WOW! So sad. The anger beneath the sadness...the loss.

Oh, also I loved the comparisons to the desert. Excellent metaphors and/or similes.
Wow, where was I at when I wrote that?!!! I believe I was listening to "Desert Rose" by Sting:)
