Mermaids and Butterflies

Von:
Mermaids and Butterflies
“Mermaids and Butterflies” is not even remotely as lighthearted as the title might lead one to believe. Called "an unsettling tale of loss and loneliness" by editor of CICADA magazine Deborah Vetter, the magic realist short story dumps readers into the life of a disturbed, unnamed protagonist as she is confronted with the question of what a person is and how a person can change.

Okay while this was super sad I couldn't help but smile and laugh at parts of it. Maybe it's just my sick sense of humor but I found most of this humorous, not the last page though, that was sad and...thought provoking. You are a very talented person. And the adults in this story, really? I don't want to give too much away in my comment but dude, that guy would be so fired. But seriously, this is the second short story that I... mehr anzeigen

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a morbid sense of humor or that thinks this guy is in need of a reality check. Now that I've read your other comment on magic realism then reread the piece, I now fully understand the adults in the story and why no one was REALLY concerned with... mehr anzeigen

You're gonna make me blush lol :). Like I said, I'm really glad you liked it as magic realism is such a departure from what I usually write. I for one would be flipping my ish as well if I found a mermaid in a duck pond :). I don't know that many others will pick it up, though.... mehr anzeigen

Yeah, this one was definitely not one of my more cheerful pieces. Sometimes even I'm not sure how I managed to write something like this.

Lol, thanks, I'm glad you liked it :). I was trying out a new genre and a new style with this one. The genre is called magic realism wherein magic is generally accepted as part of an otherwise mundane setting. So, to answer your question, yes, the general population of this... mehr anzeigen

If it was a first way to creep people out but still entertain them, i think you can put it in the list of success :)

LOL! Haha no, I didn't quite foresee it turning out like that, but I'll take it XD
