All of this is nice and good, but a lot more is needed. It is not enough yo
divest of the shares because somebody else, that does not care, will buy the
shares at even lower prices if a lot of investors are divesting and make money
on the process. The excuse of index funds that they cannot divest is a
fallacy. They can create ""ex-gun index funds"" that financially would be
almost identical to regular index funds. The key is in reducing the demand for
their products and starving them of financing. That way profits would drop,
shareholders would loose money and no new investors should be willing to
finance their equity, sending them into a spiral of contraction. Reforming the
Boards and transforming the firms into something else, as tobacco did, is a
very long term proposition.
