If you wanted to do what Angus 27 suggests...you could actually take this true story and make it more vivid, using the details he mentions. You could EVEN take this a little further, and develop it into a piece of fiction...keep the dog and have him save your life - during a fire or something - which would round it into a nice 'feel good' story...
As it stands though...you did a good job of making me feel good anyway, so thank you for what you did...:)

I'm sure this actually happened. Was he small? What color? Long hair, short hair? What breed? You should describe the dog in your story. Make me see what you saw.
