Well written, and well thought out. I applaud you for expressing your

You mention you support some measures of gun control - that puts you at odds
with the NRA and with Congress - and in practice our President. The walk out
was about students saying ""YOU (adults) need to do something now, or we will
once we can vote."" Yes, some want to ban all guns, others want limits on clip
capacity and a variety of other ""cures"" for a growing issue.
As a gun owner, and fan, I strongly suggest that you push others who are like
minded to you to take the reins on the gun control debate. Sensible gun
control is needed, fast, and it should start with the ""no-brainer"" ideas
(you mention closing the gun-show loop hole).
To get you started, here are a few basic ideas I think you can get behind:
Close the gun show-loop hole.
Ban bump-stocks
Allow the CDC to track gun statistics
Allow the federal government to use digital background checks
Additionally - I would love to see, but you might disagree:
National gun database to track purchases, coupled with a crack-down on straw-
purhcasers
Taking guns away from people who have active restraining orders
Mandatory insurance for gun-owners, done through private industry, with
discounts for safe storage, living in rural areas, taking safety classes, low
caliber weapons - pretty much just like car insurance - couples with liability
if your gun is involved in an illegal accident or intentional shooting, paid
for by the insurance company.
