The students of the sixties, of which I was one, realized that the structures
of American power directly threatened their lives -- Vietnam, southeast Asia
-- and therefore they had to confront those structures. The students of the
Parkland generation are realizing the same truth today, this time focused
domestically -- NRA, compliant and cowardly Congress (again) -- and so must
similarly confront the structures of power that are directly threatening their
lives. I am pleased for David Brooks that he never had to face such immediate
