Draconian. As a physician who served on a medical system controlled substance
reduction committee I can tell you there are many reasons as to why some
patients are on high dose opioids; appropriately and inappropriately. Yes,
some patients can find alternatives. Yes some providers need education and
practice changes. But outside of ""pill mills"" providers are trying to do the
best for their patients. Our system literally reviewed every patient (at first
100's) on high dose chronic opioids to support our providers-- it took years
to get it even close to right-- care that could be justified as medically
appropriate and humane if a patient complained to leadership. This proposal is
draconian, knee jerk, stuff.
