Honestly, being a card-carrying member of the "un-fairer" sex, I shouldn't have been able to really identify with bad perms, "Big Hair", and especially eyebrow plucking--why DO women actually tolerate such self-torture?--but I've gotta' admit, I laughed out loud as I read the advanced copy.

We've all been the kid in the back seat saving the now-flavorless wad of gum for its future use, stuffing it without a thought into the only logical place on our bodies...and then suffering the consequences. Seen (and cringed) at the Beach-Blanket-Bingo, Once-Starlet (laughing there!) woman at the pool begging for a bout with melanoma due to her insane devotion to Coppertone and baby oil. And for those of us over...well, forty...considered a do that makes angels weep! "How would I look as Michael Score, I wonder?"
This is a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the wonderfully tragic, insane devotion we have to beauty and trends, all the more laugh out loud humorous as told by one Southern gal with her pithy take on it. Her personal experiences with it! Tragic Tales is a walk from the 70s through the 90s and beyond--a kind of Divine Comedy viewed hand in hand with Avery "Virgil" Brown:)
There but for the grace of God went I. Well, most of the time! "UV rays? Great for the skin, and I look awesome!" Lord have mercy. We're all in this book somewhere.
