So if the Russians can hack power grids, I guess they can hack voting
machines. Why do we consider power grids more strategic than voting machines?
It is often said that the diversity in the way states and municipalities set
up the vote keeps things from getting massively hacked. But when Conor Lamb
wins by 600 votes in a local election, you only have to target one or two
systems to make a difference. The US must back off the networking and online
convenience of strategic assets until it can protect the existing ones.
Security protocols must be prioritized for research and implementation. We
need a well-financed effort.
