""It's the inequality, stupid"" needs to be the organizing principle. If there
is to be a litmus test to pick Democratic candidates, it should be whether
they embrace FDR economics or not. Conor Lamb passed that test. His campaign
was about health care, Social Security, Medicare, workers rights, etc.
Corporatists - like those who voted last week for weakening regulations on the
banksters - should be primaried. (OK, then if they win, hold your nose and
vote for them in the general. But do vote.) While social/cultural issues are
important, they are not so important as to risk future Republican majorities
and court appointments, which will simply lead to a further erosion on those
issues as well as damage on pocketbook issues, e.g., tax cuts for
millionaires. Run on the economic issues on which the vast majority of Dems -
and even a majority of Republicans - agree. Do not let the Republicans make
elections about cultural issues.
In my opinion, Hilary Clinton lost the 2016 election when she went to Wall
Street to give speeches for a lot of money.
