The Strange Voyage of Oren of the Good People

The Strange Voyage of Oren of the Good People

Oren was one of the Good People, or at least that's the term used by those who couldn't pronounce the Gaelic word that defined him. One evening, during some drunken revels with a dear friend, he found himself trapped in what turned out to be a very famous smokestack...

DISCLAIMER: This story is purely from my imagination, and any unintentional butchering of actual, established mythical lore has been done without malice or premeditated disregard for magical histories. No fairies, leprechauns, or other such beings were harmed, maimed, or killed in the making of this story...insulted maybe, but hey.

Again, a multitude of thanks! I love Celtic mythology, being half Welsh (the other half is, I'm told, Anglo-Saxon English based on my biological father's last name - I, too, was adopted). In fact, my book series, "The MacDara Chronicles," is the tale of a boy from 6th Century... mehr anzeigen

Page 21, typo: 'to used against you'. You have an extra 'd'.

Apart from that, what can I say that hasn't been said?
Funny, original, wonderful story.

The thing is, I had no idea if my characterization of those two was accurate, Pat, so it makes me glad to know I got it right! Sometimes my imagination knows more than my brain does, if that makes any sense.

Funny you should mention the Titanic competition, Val. That's exactly what I'd begun writing this for, but couldn't complete it in time - I think I'd only gotten about three pages written and had no idea where it was... mehr anzeigen

How on earth do you do all this? You are in the middle of writing a novel -- have a couple of other stories up your sleeve -- and make time for this delightful Irish yarn. I take my tam o shanter off to you (hmm, I think that's Scottish!) for your inexhaustible imagination and the plethora of stories living inside that pretty head of yours. Pity you couldn't have written this for the Titanic contest. Love it!

What a charmingly offbeat story of the little people o'er in Fair Ireland. You brought out the best of these legendary troublemakers, in this tale of drunkenness and mischief. But after due consideration, and the promise of a free one, all anger and thoughts of revenge are quickly squelched. And that is how they are:)
