Review - You have done a marvelous job of painting a very detailed word picture of your childhood. I could feel the hay, (as I've bucked a few bales myself). And I agree, July is the worse time for haying. You brought us into the moment, helped us feel the angst of your mother's ailment, and the alienation that created for you and your siblings. Jeanne, these are, as always, very vivid memories of childhood told in a compelling and interesting manner. Some of these details you have experienced would be valuable additions to your memoirs, if you decide to follow that path, and to your stories. Candid events and life perceptions flow into each other in a very enlightening sort of way, and you might consider writing more about those, as well as about the contemplative role of memory. Survival may not always be easy. But it sounds as if you have mastered finding treasure among the tears and carving out a satisfying later life. Please keep writing. And sharing.
