Dakota makes some excellent points, for those criticizing his decision not to
join the walk out is perplexing for me. In his article he states that both
sides are not willing to have a conversation, and here are commenters saying,
“Well spoken, BUT....” This is a young man aware there are both sides to this
discussion. He didn’t say anything about not getting his guns “taken away”,

join the walk out is perplexing for me. In his article he states that both
sides are not willing to have a conversation, and here are commenters saying,
“Well spoken, BUT....” This is a young man aware there are both sides to this
discussion. He didn’t say anything about not getting his guns “taken away”,
he’s asking people to be educated. Guns and hunting can be a hobby for people,
just like people who collect vintage military equipment, knives, and rebuild
old cars and military vehicles. Why not maintain the stance that we should be
educated? Why always argue that the gun owners “just don’t get it”? I’m not a
gun owner but I think the conversation does need to come from both directions,
and this young man is a good start. (Also, many students protested the walk-
out in cities and rural areas, citing that students just wanted an excuse to
leave class and were not making informed decisions but overly guided ones)
