...It's the boomer equivalent of political-poetical-porno....)
A..
Boehnhofer reference, a thin unexpected bout of jew references....the occasional "f" word thrown in there...
Latin, latin, latin, greek, more political heros......

I got a migraine,
...but I love poetry so much that I was totally fascinated that this man was digging up dead greeks that I never heard of just to finish a line.
I was thinking, "Damn, poetry IS a sickness. He's got the bug, and he's terminal."
This man beat the snot out of the dictionary,
He dug up all of ancient greece,
He searched his college years for Vietnam references
and did it ALL for One hundred and Sixty Seven pages...just to write...a poem.
And here I was, reading "Bliss Carman" on this site--thinking poetry came from the soul.
This is truly a man suffering for his craft, because I only write when I'm inspired.
Doing this, what's in this book....If words were that much in my blood in that way--I'd stick my head Plath-like in the microwave.

Feasts of November is the second poem, very different from the first. I am British not American. the Viet Nam war was avery different business viewed from here. I think the reaction when I was very young was one of awesome surprise. There is only one refernec to Jews .It is simply the truth that the Jews were not allowed into Spain until the sixties, such was the rabid ant-semitism of the Catholic Church at that time. You honour me with your anger. If I can't fascinate at least I can draw blood. Unfortunately, Sylvia Plath had a gas-oven best :-P wishes Duncan
