Hallo - And thank you kindly for your comments. Yes - they said it wasn't possible, that there were too many obstacles to overcome - and anyway, you don't speak properly ! But I proved that it was possible to achieve and also to recognise that obtacles are there to be overcome - and you can, if you have the willpower, the perseverance, and enough determination. It was the same with playing the piano. It was my first lesson that in this life there isn't much you can't achieve - if you truly want to. As a dreamy young lad - and mesmerised by the wonderful music in a wartime British film DANGEROUS MOONLIGHT, I just dreamed of the day when, and if, I would be able to strike those dramatic opening chords of THE WARSAW CONCERTO. Being poor my dear old Mum was brokenhearted that she couldn't send me to lessons for she could see how badly I wanted to learn to play - if only to play that concerto. But I had to accept the situation and so I decided to teach myself. I am very proud indeed to be able to say that I was successful and I eventually played before people in pubs to earn some extra money - and even more proud when people asked me to play the Warsaw Concerto which I gladly did. I still play regularly and many melodies and pieces like THE DREAM OF OLWEN, THE CORNISH RHAPSODY, etc., bring back so many memories. But it proved to me that I can do things independently. I wrote a short article which I call HOW I TAUGHT MYSELF TO PLAY PIANO - a step by step account of what I did and how I did it.
