My mom was Polish/Ukrainian, so the foods you describe are very familiar to me. I even prepare many of then.

Thanks for the thumbs up. I've traveled back and forth to Russia several times to adopt my children and work in home care with elderly Russian clients who live in subsidized housing. That, of course, is where the 'seed' for this story came from. But, anyway, thanks for the kind words!!!
