A black and white portrayal of emotions. Exceptionally well written, riveting, and revealing. You feel his grief poignantly well as he goes through the search for something tangible of his father. I would suggest that you enter this into the Glimmer Train. This is the type of material they are always searching for and is written as well if not better than some of those stories I have read that have won in their contests. Superb job. Robynn

You write with a maturity beyond your years. This is a very well written story that I can see being developed into perhaps a novel. It is beautifully written with characters that come to life under your magic touch.

Thanks Mary. This story is not only very well written, but its descriptive nature reminds me a lot of my past. Dad was a coal miner in Belgium. I later was a photographer for over 30 years. Even the part where the mom leaves her husband brings back memories when my mom took me and my two brothers and moved away, not tell my dad where. Eventually we got back together. That's been years ago. Both of them are long gone. My father was tough yet he was a sensitive man inside. Thanks Angus for the memories.
The only problem I have with this well written tale is that now I'm not going to write my own story for this contest....I stand no chance.

This is incredibly well-written. Seriously. You showed the nuances of the relationship between the protagonist and his father flawlessly. A contender for the contest for sure.
