I only read the sample but enjoyed the style. Just a few points:

- If he was doing a Masters in Mathematics why did he become a lawyer - maybe describe how he is disillusioned by his study and so turned to a different profession.

- You mention 'Masters' twice when describing Rani's study.

Think "hook", maybe? I like your opening paragraph very much. What would happen if in the next you went directly into scene? Or even opened in-scene, and then went back to exposition concerning Rani and her upcoming predicament?

Rani also known as Sara was a virgin. "innocent as a rosebud awaiting to bloom." Naive in the true systems of the world she is broken into reality by Arun, an Oedipal mysoginistic Indian male and the man who was the primary heartbreaker in young Rani's life.
This is an anger filled story of inter familial repression, class warfare and self important snobbery versus a woman who is free of blame, taking correct action to protect herself and her daughter.
A Cinderella story where Prince Charming carries no courage for the woman he vowed to love, only a desire to carry out his unrelenting destruction of all a man should hold dear.
This moralistically led short carries the message. "How many times can you use your weapons on a dog before the dog turns around and uses it's weapons on you?"

3.5 stars

I think I have read this before, and still have a vague recollection of what she thought was going to be a happy marriage going very wrong, wonderful story too.
